I’m honestly so disappointed and saddened by some of the things I’ve seen people say about this situation. And it’s not just this one incident it’s in general. We keep seeing situations like this happen, and every time, people rush to defend it while being openly rude, dismissive, and sometimes downright racist toward those speaking up. What hurts even more is how loudly people demand respect for their own cultures, traditions, and histories. Yet when Black people ask for that same respect, suddenly we’re too sensitive, making everything about race, or creating problems where there supposedly aren’t any. Toxic stan Twitter aside, speaking as a Black woman and a fangirl in this community, it’s genuinely heartbreaking. This is a space where I come to enjoy the things I love, support artists I care about, and connect with people who share those interests. Seeing such hostility toward us is painful especially knowing we have to go through the same thing already in our own daily lives . I can brush off petty fandom arguments, but racism will never be one of them. And that goes for racism in any form, whether it’s directed at me or anyone else. I will never excuse it simply because it doesn’t affect me personally. My ancestors endured generations of slavery, oppression, and discrimination. They were denied their dignity, humanity, and for so long the freedom to speak for themselves. They fought so that generations like mine could have a voice. So when we speak up about something rooted in that history, it’s not because we enjoy arguing or being offended. It’s because we understand what silence once meant for our people and we use our voices to make sure it never happens again. I understand that we come from different cultures and backgrounds, and I don’t expect everyone to know a history they may never have been taught. But understanding should never be one sided. We’re not asking for special treatment, just the same basic respect everyone expects for themselves. Reading some of these comments today felt like watching the clock turn backward. We live in a world more connected than ever, with so many opportunities to learn from one another, yet some of the things I’ve read make that progress feel painfully distant. And perhaps that’s what saddens me most. In a community that has opened my heart to so many people and cultures, I never expected to be reminded so harshly that the world doesn’t always extend the same openness in return.
