Ukraine is not Russia. That's Putin’s problem – refusing to recognize a separate nation, refusing to recognize a separate country – that's what did him in. He was shown a military operation that was supposed to take three days. We found parade uniforms in their various military vehicles. They were literally marching to a parade. He still doesn't understand and doesn't want to admit that this is a different nation, a different people. They were advancing on Kyiv from all directions. Their main goal was to seize the capital of Ukraine. They reached Kyiv. They trapped us, and then we started hammering them, and they didn't know what to do about it. They were especially shocked when they drove toward the capital and people were just throwing burning mixtures. People were setting their armor on fire. It wasn't a matter of some general being an idiot. I believe the one who gave the order just didn't fully realize what was happening. Because what does taking Kyiv mean? When you've taken those towns on the way to Kyiv, you have to leave troops behind to hold those towns. And that takes a huge number of people. It's a pretty large territory. If the people inside offer resistance, then you need an army to hold every town. That was their mistake. They didn't even realize there would be resistance. That was their main mistake. That's it. From The Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. (1/3)

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

All this time we waited and
Gemini 4 Argon has proven to be outright unusable for real code work in my codebases. It aggressively hallucinates about how systems work.

Scary stuff. What’s the best git alt for a weekly backup?
Whelp I got banned on @github randomly with 0 warning or explanation after 15+ years. Not a repo taken down, my entire account removed. 100s of repos, deploys, and logins. Decades of history at various org’s. Gone. Support ticket filed, but 2 days later no response, and no reason why… 😭😭😭 On the off chance any of my followers work at GitHub, any chance you could help escalate this support ticket, thanks 🙏 4847303 Only info I have is an automated sweep marked my account as maybe violating the terms, and requires manual review. Which I don’t think I did? But if I did on accident, I’m happy to fix & remedy any way I can. I dont understand why they wouldn’t pull down a single repo if there was an issue. I just want my account back. I have literal years of my life and work saved there. This sucks. Trust broken.

The era of truly “personal” computing
Now I can control my AC straight from the macOS menubar 😂 Reverse-engineered the Blue Star app, built an MCP server, and reused it to make this happen with a single prompt.

Most domestic recycling efforts are empirically retarded, counterproductive, and require you don't value your time. Their real function is to fill the God-shaped hole, sized for penance, prayer, and sacrifice, in people's souls. wsj.com/opinion/most-recycli…

GitHub gets a lot of flak - but the scale they’ve managed to support is pretty incredible!
The busiest single repo on GitHub saw roughly a billion requests in ONE MONTH. Today, we shared how we’re rebuilding GitHub’s storage layer (without changing how you use GitHub) decoupling compute & storage so reads and writes scale independently. Quicker pushes, pulls, and a platform that stays fast as more agents and developers code. We’re designing against some of the largest workloads on the platform so there’s headroom for everyone. More below on how this works and excited to show you more at @GitHub Universe. 👇

This guy re-created all the adobe apps with opus-5.5, ported them to rust, and opensourced them something really cool is happening
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
These projects are partial open-source Rust reimplementations of Adobe apps (built rapidly with AI agents), not complete recreations; their READMEs and roadmaps document many missing features and features still in development. github.com/storytold/phot… github.com/storytold/vect… github.com/storytold/vect… github.com/storytold/film… github.com/storytold/film… github.com/storytold/ligh… getartcraft.com
