The first Barkley was held in 1986, with three loops, for about 55 miles, 25,000 feet of climbing, with a 24-hour cutoff. Thirteen unlucky runners started. They paid the entry fee of 35 cents.

@keithdunn - Update for immediate release: There will be no #bm100 finishers this year. As such, everyone can return to work and get on with their lives and I will see you all again next year where I hope the runners prepare better.

Unless somehow the "slower" sections from loop 1 are "faster" in the CCW direction.
I'm really just being hopeful here.
The slowest loop1 of a 100mile finisher is John Kelly 9:29 in 2017. The last time a runner finished loop1 in over 9:30 and still finish a fun run under 36 hours to start loop 4 was Greig Hamilton in 2019. With the leaders taking ~9:45 we might not even see a loop 4 started #BM100

In 2023 and 2024, runners were first seen at the tower at around 5:35 - 5:45 race time.
Should start seeing them in 15- 25 minutes unless significant course changes or they got turned around.
