hate it when my side hustle (employment) gets in the way of my main hustle (watching movies)
🏆 15 ACTRESSES ONE AWARD AWAY FROM COMPLETING THE BIG 4 🏆
Incidentally, there are also 15 actresses who are just one award shy of joining the elite and esteemed group that swept the following movie awards in the Philippines:
🏆 FAMAS
🏆 Gawad Urian
🏆 Luna
🏆 PMPC Star Awards for Movies
Some notes:
⚪️ These are strictly for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories only. New Movie Actress/Breakthrough/Hall of Fame/Special Awards are not included
⚪️ Surprisingly enough, out of these 15 names, Luna seems to be the hardest to get. 7 of these actresses are missing a Luna—Sharmaine Arnaiz, Maricel Laxa, Anita Linda, Alessandra de Rossi, Gloria Diaz, Odette Khan, and Nadine Lustre. 6 of them are missing an Urian—Caridad Sanchez, Dawn Zulueta, Maricel Soriano, Claudine Barretto, Lovi Poe, and Angel Locsin. Both Zsa Zsa Padilla and Iza Calzado are missing a FAMAS in their mantle.
⚪️ Sharmaine Arnaiz won her three-set special for Saan Ka Man Naroroon. She lost the Luna to Monique Wilson for Kapag Iginuhit ang Hatol ng Puso.
⚪️ Obviously, Anita Linda cannot complete hers anymore. Since 2000, she has been nominated for one: best Supporting Actress for Santa Niña (Hilda Koronel won that year for The Mistress).
⚪️ Probably the most notable name here is Maricel Soriano who should have been an Urian winner by now. She has been nominated 8x by the Manunuri, most recently in 2006 for Inang Yaya. I'm still hoping she wins a competitive one someday.
⚪️ Zsa Zsa Padilla was another close case. She won the Star, Urian, and Luna for Batang PX in 1997. The last one was a tie with Maricel Soriano for Nasaan ang Puso, and Marya ended up with the FAMAS ending Zsa Zsa's grand slam chances.
⚪️ Angel Locsin won 3/4 of the awards for her performance in the MMFF film One More Try. Unfortunately, she was snubbed by the Manunuri.
⚪️ It is understated how quick Lovi Poe got three of hers (in a span of three years). While she is still Urian-less, she was just nominated last year for Guilty Pleasure.
⚪️ Odette Khan also won her three in a single year for Bar Boys in 2017. She was not nominated for Luna that year (Jasmine Curtis won for Siargao), but history could be kind to her as she is eligible for Bar Boys: After School.
⚪️ Nadine Lustre is the youngest actress and the most recent one to join this club. Had a hunch she would have clinched it for Uninvited if there was a 2024 edition, but alas, she would have to work harder to get one!
In the history of Philippine award giving bodies, only 15 actresses have received individual awards from the Big 4:
🏆 FAMAS (established in 1952)
🏆 Gawad Urian (established in 1976)
🏆 Luna (established in 1982)
🏆 PMPC Star Awards for Movies (established in 1984)
Some notes:
⚪️ These are strictly for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories only. New Movie Actress/Breakthrough/Hall of Fame/Special Awards are not included
⚪️ Nida Blanca is the first one to complete this in 1986 (for film year 1985) as she made an almost complete sweep for Miguelito
⚪️ Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos are the first actresses to complete all four strictly for Best Actresses in 1989. Ate Guy needed a Luna for which she won for Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit, while Ate Vi nedded the Star for which she finally won for Pahiram Ng Isang Umaga. Ironically, Vilma's PMPC win blocked Nora's grandslam that year.
⚪️ Judy Ann Santos is the youngest actress in this list to complete the trophies, for which she completed in 2006. She swept FAMAS, Star, and Luna for Kasal Kasali Kasalo while winning the much-harder Urian two years earlier for Sabel.
⚪️ Glydel Mercado won all hers in the span of one year—the quickest to do so, as she did a Supporting Actress sweep for Sidhi in 1999.
⚪️ Gina Pareño also won hers in a single year, as she swept Best Supporting Actress for Kasal Kasali Kasalo at FAMAS, Star, and Luna. She won Lead at Urian for Kubrador the same year, blocking Judy Ann Santos who plays her daughter in Kasal Kasali Kasalo.
⚪️ The late Cherie Gil is still the latest inclusion in this list, completing hers in 2018. Hers is an interesting pattern—she won her FAMAS and Luna for 1989's Ang Bukas Ay Akin and completed it in 2018 getting both the Star and Urian for Citizen Jake.
⚪️ Save for Glydel Mercado and Lorna Tolentino, all 13 other actresses have also won at the Metro Manila Film Festival (whether as Lead or Supporting Actress).
Easily one of my favorite films this year, Club Kid is heading to the Philippines.
Don't miss this Cannes sensation by Jordan Firstman, premiering here starting November 18!

BINI makes history as the first non-Korean act to be nominated as the Asian representative for the main Global Music Star category at the Kids Choice Awards (not to be confused with the International categories).
Previous Asian representatives since the category's inception in 2017:
2017: BigBang 🇰🇷
2018: BTS 🇰🇷
2019: Blackpink 🇰🇷
2020: BTS 🇰🇷
2021: BTS 🇰🇷
2022: BTS 🇰🇷
2023: Blackpink 🇰🇷
2024: Blackpink 🇰🇷
2025: Stray Kids 🇰🇷
2026: BINI 🇵🇭
This is huge! Congratulations @BINI_ph!
Magbubuhat lang akong bangko but I called the #Urian acting winners -- Carlo, Maris, Will, and Jennica after the nomination announcement.
Either they were just easy to call this year at this or I'm just good at it chareng #GawadUrian2026
Finally saw the #GawadUrian acting nominees and here's who I think will win the four acting categories.
BEST ACTOR:
It's the perfect storm for Carlo Aquino to finally move out of the Urian-less list with his performance in Bar Boys After School. He's on his 10th nomination for a film they showered with noms. Looks like the best scenario for him. Watch out for Jojit Lorenzo who can repeat his Cinemalaya victory over here.
BEST ACTRESS:
Maris Racal will be the second Antoinette Jadaone directed performance to win Best Actress, seven years after Nadine Lustre in Never Not Love You. Nuff said.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Urian love their supporting actors relatively new if we base it on wins by Rafael Rosell, Coco Martin, Martin del Rosario, and Christian Bables to name a few. So this bodes well for Will Ashley. That said, I feel like Nanding Josef will get his second Urian for Hydra.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
It's technically a race between two mothers—Rochelle Pangilinan's supportive mom in Child No. 82, but I think Jennica Garcia will follow her mother's footsteps (2011 winner in this category for Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa) and win as Sunshine's elder sister slash mother figure.
