During the horrors of the Armenian Genocide, an Armenian mother tore a rug in two and wrapped each half around one of her young daughters. She prayed that if they were separated, the rug halves would one day lead them back to each other. The sisters were lost to one another for over 50 years. Then, half a century later, a miracle unfolded in the most sacred of places. One sister, living in Lebanon, visited New York and attended a service at an Armenian church. Sitting on a church pew, she noticed a carpet on the floor, and she felt an urge to tell the woman sitting next to her about her mother's divided rug. The woman listening was her long-lost sister. She had brought her own half of the same rug to church that day. After half a century of separation, a rug brought two sisters back together in the holiest of places for every Christian: a church.
