I decided to try it myself.
I gave Opus 5.5 a task: improve SmolLLM's performance on a specific visual classification task by experimenting with prompts, inspecting its activations, modifying its weights, and manually fine-tuning it. The idea was to identify which neurons were activated when the model produced incorrect results, determine which ones contributed to the errors, and try to bypass them.
Opus 5.5 knew exactly how to approach the task, and it worked. 100x faster than traditional fine-tuning.
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math.
It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training.
We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! ๐งต

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
LLM was given weights explicitly as text in prompt and used code/forward passes (per authors' logs) to ablate Qwen looping direction, a known thinking-mode issue per model card. Primarily fixed repetition in that mode, not general 'natively' improving weights/math.

Everyone's racing to make AI agents more capable.
Capability isn't the bottleneck. It never was. Capability is the breakthrough โ the missing piece is control.
CrowdStrike shipped an AI Kill Switch. IBM made Agent Identity GA. UBS runs 12,700 agents.
A kill switch is real progress. But it's a last resort โ what you reach for when you've already lost control.
Stopping an agent isn't the same as steering it.
The harder problem: governing the agentic process while it runs. End to end. Setting the goal, the constraints, the boundaries โ and keeping the run on track from start to finish.
Kill and intervention should be there. But when agents work well, you should almost never need them.
Capability was the breakthrough. Control is the product.

We're sharing our new framework for tracking, investigating, and disclosing instances of model misalignment at OpenAI.
The framework sets criteria and timelines for public disclosure, including when we havenโt yet fully explained or mitigated the behavior. More complex cases may require longer investigation or coordination with third parties.
Weโll prioritize examples that reveal new misalignment mechanisms, meaningful changes in known behavior, or findings that challenge assumptions about safety or mitigation.
Alongside the framework, weโre publishing six reports on instances of misaligned behavior weโve observed during the training or evaluation of our models in the last six months.
This is a starting point. Weโll refine the process through experience and public feedback, and share more reports on an ongoing basis.

We ran a 30,000-customer test on a live collections book (IEC). Three arms: WhatsApp AI agent, human call centre, no contact.
Incremental recovery vs the call centre was about 1.7x. Same interest-waiver campaign ran on all arms, so don't hang the money on the agent alone.

Be specific.

In Buddhism we understand that every action comes with a consequence. Due to my decision to stand up for my Jewish friends I am losing a few people from my life. Today I parted company with Tony Pontius who has run my record label BGP for a number of years. I wanted to release 'We Will Dance Again' but he was unequivocal and said 'I want nothing to do with this song' and I responded 'ok, we are done'.
When someone is gutless it really does not hurt to say goodbye. My faith in humanity will not diminish and the truth will always win.
I will release it!
I can't express how important this is
Andrew Ng showed that an older GPT model inside an agentic workflow outperforms a newer model asked to answer once.
The numbers on HumanEval are hard to argue with. gpt-3.5 zero-shot scores 48.1%. gpt-4 zero-shot scores 67.0%. gpt-3.5 wrapped in an agentic workflow scores up to 95.1%.
Upgrading the model bought 19 points. Designing a better system around the same model bought 47.
agentic architecture means the model doesn't answer and stop. it drafts, reviews its own work against a rubric, runs code to verify, and revises until the output passes.
Ng identifies four design patterns that make this work:
-reflection lets the model critique and revise.
-tool use grounds claims in real data.
-planning maps steps before execution.
-and multi-agent collaboration splits work across roles that catch different errors.
none of this requires a frontier model. a cheaper, faster model running more iterations inside a smarter system beats an expensive model asked to get it right the first time.
a 12-page community-compiled synthesis maps all four of ng's patterns alongside Anthropic's five workflow patterns into one staged playbook, from a single reflection loop to full graph architecture.
stop chasing model upgrades and start designing better systems around what you already have.
