Another nine months of attrition during 2026. Nine months in which Russia has fed men, equipment and entire formations into the furnace of its own making.
Ukraine has steadily bled Russian forces at the front and in the rear, creating the conditions for localised gains while rebuilding and replacing commanders after the turmoil of earlier in the year.
One advantage of democracy over despotism is that, while the system may be rough and disorderly, its pillars permit change at the top without bringing the whole structure crashing down. Despotism may appear more efficient, but it is brittle - when failure reaches the men at the top, there are far fewer places for it to go.
When the failures can no longer be blamed on the soldiers at the front, the machinery turns inward. The commanders will look for someone to blame. The commanders' commanders will look for someone beneath them. And those same propaganda mappers who manufactured victories on paper may soon discover that the paper has instead become their indictment...

Poles and Ukrainians will probably never agree on every detail of our shared history. However, lasting reconciliation does not require identical historical narratives.

Ukraine’s ongoing mid-range strike drone campaign has intensified in strength recently, primarily targeting Russian military trucks and tankers.
So we thought we would publish a quick guide to identifying which military district or organization a vehicle likely belongs to based on the license plate.
This guide, linked below, currently contains only commonly seen plate numbers.
Feel free to comment with any unlisted numbers that have been sighted during this campaign.
Note: Russian military plates are always black with white text and formatted like the attached image.

The loss of a Ukrainian Su-25. The aircraft was hit by an R-37 missile; the responsibility likely lies with either a MiG-31BM or a Su-35S fighter, as these are the types that typically patrol with such long-range missiles. The pilot lost his life during the action. Blue skies to him, and may he rest in peace.

The Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela has begun escorting ships carrying petroleum products leaving the country, following the recent seizure of a sanctioned oil tanker in the Southern Caribbean by the United States and threats of a “blockade” by President Donald J. Trump, with several ships - transporting urea, petroleum coke and other oil-based products - departing the Port of José bound for Asia between Tuesday evening and Wednesday, receiving a naval escort by warships of the Venezuelan Navy, three people familiar with the matter told the New York Times.
