For years, part of one of Sicily’s oldest museums remained closed to visitors. Today, its doors are finally reopening.
Founded in 1814 and housed in a former convent in Palermo, the Museo Salinas holds extraordinary Greek sculptures dating back more than 2,500 years.
But what has been hidden upstairs?
Following extensive restoration, visitors can finally explore reopened galleries featuring ancient mosaics, archaeological discoveries from western Sicily, and restored historic interiors.
And for one day only, November 6, admission is FREE.
Keep in mind that advance booking is required.
So if you are in the area, this is a rare chance to rediscover a part of Sicily’s ancient past.

Raphael painted The School of Athens and The Disputation of the Holy Sacrament on opposite walls of the same Vatican room.
One explores philosophy through the great thinkers of antiquity.
The other presents Christian revelation and the Eucharist.
Together, they reveal the intellectual ambitions of the Renaissance.
