Ian Bremmer explains to @chucktodd why military aid to Israel is one of the three most unpopular positions a congressional candidate can hold.
@ianbremmer: “Why are we sending billions of dollars to Israel? ... They are an advanced industrial democracy with nuclear weapons. So why are we doing that? Like, even if nominally, you think, okay, fine, like, they're a democracy and we generally like them more than we like Palestinians. But why would you pay for it?”

“If anyone other than Netanyahu were leading Israel, then Trump is not sure he'd be interested in continuing to attack Iran going forward. He actually said that!"
Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd that Trump would be reluctant to strike Iran if Netanyahu were no longer Israel's prime minister.
@ianbremmer: “[Netanyahu] actually said that he, of course, wanted to engage in strikes against Iran before his own election. ... And Trump told him not to. But he's got at least a blinking yellow, maybe a blinking green, to go in with the Americans after US midterms.”

Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd that Trump is more popular than Netanyahu in Israel.
@ianbremmer: “Even before October 7th, there were nationwide demonstrations against him because of what he was trying to do to destroy the independent judiciary in that country, because of the domestic challenges where there are real opponents, because this is a corrupt guy who's been done up on all sorts of individual charges that involving his family, and he's trying as best as he can to avoid ever going to jail.”

Ian Bremmer tells @chucktodd that if Marine Le Pen wins, it could bring about a “financial crisis” in France.
@ianbremmer: “The markets are punishing the French for their behavior, but they're punishing France when the leader they're worried about isn't even in power.”

The right question to be asking at this point of the election is not "Are Democrats going to have a good night."
The right question is "How big will the Democratic wave get?"

Ali Latifi tells @chucktodd and @LauraTrevelyan what life is like in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
@alibomaye: “There are still women reporting on television. Yes, they have to wear COVID masks, but they're still able to report ... There are these sorts of little glimmers of hope ... And there's no doubt that there are massive limitations. The biggest issue being the fact that girls beyond the sixth grade are not able to attend formal government-run schools.”

With 6% of Israel's population living abroad, many Israeli Americans are returning to vote in the upcoming election.
A campaign to encourage Israelis overseas to return and vote faced opposition from Netanyahu, with organizers barred from paying for flights or accommodations.

Former Republican senator Jeff Flake tells @chucktodd that Trump turned Arizona over to Democrats in statewide elections.
@JeffFlake: “There are 300,000 more registered Republicans statewide than Democrats. ... All you need is an R behind your name. And as long as you don't say, ‘Well, Donald Trump really won the 2020 election’...”

Former U.S. Senator Jeff Flake tells @chucktodd that Thom Tillis is right: Most Republican senators loathe Trump but go along with him.
@JeffFlake: “A couple of us would go to the White House to talk about trade policy or immigration or whatever and just come back and regale everybody else ... Does the president know the difference between a trade deficit and a budget deficit? ... And so everybody knows it there.”

Trump Jr.-Backed Firm Eyes Brazil’s Minerals
A company backed by Donald Trump Jr.’s investment firm 1789 Capital could use Brazilian rare earths to make magnets for the U.S. military.
Vulcan Elements has a $620 million Pentagon loan commitment to expand production and is developing a supply chain that could draw minerals from Minas Gerais. The Brazilian supply agreement is not yet binding.
Noosphere’s Tiffany Higgins sat down with Gustavo Freitas, editor of the O Fluxo news outlet in Belem (Brazil), to discuss this.
Lula has sought to strengthen federal oversight on critical minerals, citing sovereignty concerns.
But Flavio Bolsonaro has stated that, if elected, he will give the U.S. access to Brazilian critical minerals.
The U.S. has pushed for Bolsonaro for president because they want a pliable candidate they can “manage” to assure U.S. access to critical minerals and other resources, Freitas said.

Indigenous student Elaine Brazão fears a Flávio Bolsonaro presidency would mean “an end to Indigenous territories.”
Flávio Bolsonaro has positioned himself against new Indigenous land demarcations, explicitly promising to block them in Mato Grosso state.
Many already-occupied Indigenous lands would also be at risk under his presidency. Bolsonaro co-authored the Marco Temporal bill, which, if instituted, would restrict Indigenous land rights.
That would impact Indigenous people like Elaine, who talked with Noosphere’s Tiffany Higgins.
Bolsonaro has promised to “get rid of environmental constraints,” raising concerns among traditional peoples, environmentalists, and climate experts about the Amazon’s future.
Elaine is from the Indigenous Baniwa Bare peoples in the Terra Preta territory on the Rio Negro in Amazonas state in the Brazilian Amazon.

Former U.S. Senator Jeff Flake tells @chucktodd that the Republican Party has left him.
@JeffFlake: "The original sin for me was the birtherism argument in 2012. Not even as a candidate, but as a public official, promoted this idea that Barack Obama wasn't a legitimate candidate because he wasn't born here. I knew Donald Trump didn't believe that. But he knew that some people would, and he used it, which is worse than believing it."
