ALT You have an opportunity this week to show that, as a public servant, you are able to represent and support people with a disability. I hope that your National Press Club speech this week is full of support for the needs of disabled people in Australia. I hope that the budget is being created without increasing hate for disabled people, but with the knowledge that both NDIS and Foundational Supports need to be wide reaching program that truly support people with a disability. I look forward to seeing less hateful rhetoric on disabled people coming from this government, and a budget that respects our human rights to access support and society.

ALT An instagram post from PWDA saying: PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY AUSTRALIA WE ARE HIRING! JOIN OUR TEAM Client Officer Full time / On-site Sydney Central Applications close Friday 30 October A screenshot from the caption: As Client Officer, you will answer incoming phone calls and respond to online information requests. My comment: Tasks that do not require an on site presence. I'm sick of this, especially from DROs. Start actually leading.

ALT Screenshot of an application process. It says “Site preference. Only select the site(s) where you can physically attend the office and undertake work.” It is a compulsory field - you have to select an office location. This means you are forced to lie on an application if you cannot physically work in any office.

ALT If you write an inclusion policy, you have to consider how you will USE the inclusion policy. Actions matter. The problem is that no one thinks there’s an inclusion problem. Businesses think that having an inclusion policy means the work is done. They don’t consider that policy needs to be enacted to have any value.

ALT Having an inclusion policy is only good if you actually do something with the policy. My famous and go-to example is the government department who offered me a job in 2023, and then rescinded the job offer when they learned I was disabled. That government department has all the “correct policies” in the world, and the policies meant nothing because they didn’t follow them.
