Hundreds Give Armenia’s World Medalist Gymnasts a Hero’s Welcome Home at Zvartnots in Yerevan 🇦🇲 ➖➖➖ Hundreds of fans filled Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport overnight to welcome home Armenia's men's artistic gymnastics team, met with zurna and dhol, applause and laurels, after its best-ever World Championships, reports Zartonk Sports. The team landed early Tuesday, October 27 from Rotterdam. Waiting for them were the gymnasts' families, Gymnastics Federation of Armenia President Gagik Vanoyan, and the fathers of the two world champions. Armenia sent four gymnasts to the World Championships and all four came home with medals: Hamlet Manukyan (gold, pommel horse, 15.300), Artur Davtyan (gold, vault, 14.850, now a two-time world champion), Mamikon Khachatryan (bronze, pommel horse, 15.000) and Artur Avetisyan (bronze, rings, 14.233, his first World Championship medal). Artur Davtyan said, "We went with four and came back with the same number of medals, two gold and two bronze. For us, you could say, this was a 100 percent result," adding, "Thank God, I was able to pull myself together and do what I know how to do." He added, "I was so happy for the boys. For me these wins are not new, but for them everything is new. Two medals on a single apparatus at once, it was something I can't explain. We always used to go with four or five and come back with one or two. This time we went with four and all four returned with medals. It's a different feeling." Manukyan, Armenia's first world champion on pommel horse, said, "This was a long-awaited medal and one of my dreams and goals. I am doubly happy that I shared the podium with my friend." Khachatryan said, "My next goal is to bring joy to the Armenian nation at the 2027 European Championships." Head coach Hakob Serobyan said, "To be honest, the result was much higher than expected. For any country, having one athlete in a World Championship final is a big thing. In our case it was four out of four, a 100 percent result. I didn't believe it then, and I still don't believe it now." 🎥 Armenpress | Newsam | Sputnik
