With everyone busily using LLMs + Blender/Three.js to make 3D models, I thought I'd try a different geometric representation.
This dragon isn't a mesh, NeRF, 3DGS, or video model: it's 27kb of GLSL code (generated via LLM), defining a closed-form implicit surface. 🧵 [1/n]

☍ The Ouroboros as a function of the form.
Under mathematical laws, lambda calculus, and space phase geometry, the Ouroboros principle is translated into self referential recursive cycle and fixed point closure, outlining a function operating on itself, expressed by the equation 𝒻(𝒻) = 𝒻.
The formula simply yields the process where the output becomes input without escaping the system. This logic relies on distinctions that point back to the observer, creating a self-containing universe of rules.
Systems theory uses the Ouroboros to describe feedback loops where not only the result regulates the hierarchical structure itself, but also signifies immutability and independence from external interference.
In theoretical biology the Ouroboros is strictly related to the autopoiesis function of self procreation in which living networks preserve themselves through internal circular regeneration.

My guess: the big differentiator in modern software development will not be "taste", but sustained attention.
Most software built quickly with AI will follow an "easy come, easy go" pattern and be abandoned shortly after announcement.
Most interesting printer you can build right now. Hello World written across a human hair (56μm). Motion system is driven by M3 threaded rods and some printed parts..

Of course, the #RepRapMicron can use itself to electro-etch the probe tips. Duh! This is a test using a 0.5mm hypodermic and the 10mA current in the #RepRap RAMPS board's Z Touch circuit. youtu.be/GB33HMUqppU

In engineering and art, geometry is often represented not as meshes or points, but as domain-specific structured *grammars*.
In this work led by @milin_k_ and @jackzzhang, we investigated how to optimize these grammars ML-style with SGD. 4 simple rules make a huge difference!
Can we apply gradient descent to discrete changes? In our new #SIGGRAPHAsia paper, we show that gradient descent can work on shape grammars, as in CAD and procedural modeling, but only if the grammars are designed correctly!
