❤️ Our prop Noah Stephens underwent a five-hour Brachial Plexus nerve transfer surgery yesterday. But what does that mean? In simple terms, the procedure involved transferring nerves from his tricep to help restore function in the muscles in his shoulder and bicep. Noah suffered his injury during a game in May, and it has been a long and complicated road to get to this point. Now, the road to recovery begins. Noah, you have the love, care and unwavering support of everyone at St.Helens behind you. We’re all with you on this journey, every step of the way, and we cannot wait to see you back where you belong. ❤️ #SaintsAndProud

Julia Robinson went for scans on a suspected wrist/forearm fracture out of the Jillaroos 2nd World Cup game. Friendly fire contact with Robinson’s left forearm getting caught between teammate & ball carrier. If fracture confirmed would usually be a 3-6 week return to play time - final of the World Cup is in 3 weeks time so her tournament could be over.

Horrible news with Jasmin Strange suffering an ACL injury at England training this week - the 2nd of her career after a left ACL rupture in 2021. Likely facing reconstruction surgery with an associated ~9 month recovery period - with the kickoff for NRLW being 8.5 months away she will likely be touch & go to start the season. Wish Strange the best with recovery ahead.

Isaiya Katoa has been ruled out for Tonga this weekend after aggravating a pre-existing ankle injury in their opening game. Katoa carried a syndesmosis injury into the World Cup - with some reports suggesting he will require ankle surgery post tournament. High ankle sprains tough to play through, especially after an aggravation.

Positive news for Latu Fainu with scans revealing he avoided a significant pec injury (via @mrchrisnico) Considered more an aggravation of an old issue, there’s even a chance he’s available to play for Tonga this weekend.

Horrible news with Sarina Masaga ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup after suffering an achilles injury in Samoa’s opening game. Mechanism fairly textbook with non-contact + stepping back to push off. An achilles rupture would require surgery with 6+ months recovery - wish Masaga the best with recovery process ahead.

Mitch Moses has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a high grade muscle tear to his lower leg in the opening game. Scans revealed a “rare” tear to a muscle that attaches to the shin - was initially feared be a calf tear or hairline fibula fracture. Interesting in many ways as mechanism appeared to be direct contact in nature with a clash of legs. Potential muscles involved - tibialis anterior or the peroneals. No expected recovery time provided for Moses as yet but little doubt he will be OK for 2027.

Kalyn Ponga will undergo surgery on a broken arm suffered in the opening game of the World Cup. This would usually mean his tournament is over, but the very best case scenario (from a teammate) brings slight hope for New Zealand fans.

Isaah Yeo knocking out 80 minutes captaining Australia with a ruptured pec is INSANE. Players don’t come back from this injury without surgery because the strength and functional loss is too significant. Yeo out there making 53 tackles (0 missed) & 141 metres is unbelievable. Yeo’s pec rupture return story has been covered, but I would argue not enough. Can’t find a case of this being done before at this level in pro contact sports. Rewriting textbooks #RLWC26

Kalyn Ponga will go for scans after suffering a suspected forearm fracture. Contact mechanism - copped a direct blow to the forearm while making a tackle. If fracture is confirmed unfortunately his World Cup campaign would likely be over, with 1-2 months recovery often needed for adequate bone healing. Insane effort - he was able to play on for 17 minutes after the initial injury & score an amazing individual try. To potentially do that with a broken arm is some toughness #RLWC2026

Mitch Moses is off & wont return - succumbing to a reported calf issue. Appeared to initially suffer the injury in the first half & battled through, but had to come from the field just after half time. Moses would likely have to hope for a minor strain to be back in this World Cup - a more significant tear would usually require a month or more on the sidelines #RLWC2026

Another hip drop, another fractured + dislocated ankle. This one shows how dangerous it can be even if landing on the turf first. I think a big part of why it’s become more common is because it’s the most effective way to stop a ball carrier in their tracks. The alternative is keeping the chest on the back of the legs & sliding down - the risk is greater they fall off the tackle.

Connor Watson has been ruled out of the NRL Grand Final - failing to overturn a Category 1 designation of his HIA from last week (via @Danny_Weidler) Coming from the field Watson was initially deemed to be a Cat 2 HIA (possible signs of concussion) which was then upgraded to Cat 1 (clear & obvious signs of concussion) by the independent doctor. After Watson passed testing in the sheds & post match Roosters enquired about an exemption from the usual concussion protocols 11 day stand down period. Watson was unable to be cleared after assessments this week by independent medicos.

Nathan Cleary has been discharged from hospital after surgery to repair an open fracture in his left leg, with the surgeon reportedly happy with the outcome & hopeful that Cleary will fit for Round 1 2027 (via @ScottBaileyAAP) Cleary will go back for a 2nd surgery later this week on the stress fracture in his right foot that he carried into the Prelim Final - there will be a overlapping period of non-weight bearing for both surgeries so he may be required to use a wheelchair for a short time. The right foot injury has been revealed as a Jones fracture - which is a break in the 5th metatarsal (bone on the outer side of the foot) that would usually require around 10 weeks recovery. Even though Jones fractures are known for slow healing, tricky rehab and high re-fracture rates it will still have plenty of time to recover. Surgery (usually a screw fixation) helps lower that re-fracture risk, and with the open leg fracture needing months of rehab the foot will likely be ready long before the leg is.
