Just a few days ago, saw this video about how stray dogs were never thrown out of India’s biggest hotel because of Ratan Tata’s orders. While others chased wealth, he built a legacy of compassion that will never fade.

In his life, and demise, Mr Ratan Tata has moved the nation.
I was fortunate to spend time with him, but millions, who have never met him, feel the same grief that I feel today. Such is his impact.
From his love for animals to philanthropy, he showed that true progress can only be achieved when we care for those who don’t have the means to take care of themselves.
Rest in peace, Mr Tata. Your legacy will continue to live through the institutions you built and values that you embraced.

1. A score of 1.5% (0.5/30!) on an electrical eng midterm at IITM (5th sem). Somehow pulled off a decent grade thanks to the final.
2. Much much worse, failed my PhD oral prelim exam at Berkeley. Retook it, passed, but stressful!
It’s not how you fail, but how you fight thru it.

Early in my career, I thought the path to success was to be super smart. Pretty soon I realized that the majority of my peers were smarter than me, so that plan went out the window. What saved me was a realization that I'll call the Liam Neeson principle.

There's something beautiful about the clarity you get when you know what matters to you in your career and work. You stop chasing vanity metrics and focus on the good stuff. There lies joy.

I still cannot believe that my dream of becoming a professor is actually coming true. I did not think I could do a PhD (almost didn't apply), I couldn't write code until grad school (was never exposed to CS until then), and I submitted my first paper in my 4th year of PhD.
