"The Pacific would not have this drug problem or an issue with traditional organised crime, if it wasn't for New Zealand's and Australia's drug markets and its hunger for illicit drugs," Sousa-Santos said.

pterygium = harmless, wedge-shaped growth of tissue on the cornea that can slowly extend, often caused by too much sun or wind exposure.

Historic day for Vanuatu! π»πΊ PM Jotham Napat, Minister of Health, Japan Ambassador & a delegation of MPs launched the CT Scan at Vila Central Hospital.
PM to visit next week for a full-day briefing: βDonβt just bring problems. Bring solutions too.β

An honor to join and speak on the panel at the launching of this @caprifdn report. A report that serves to guide policy for allPacific Island countries in this modern era.
Today CAPRI launched its report on Pacific Island Health Systems in Auckland, NZ. Multi-sector & cross-border collaboration is critical for health resilience. With @TurnbullMalcolm @syaru @MofaJoanneOu @ColinTukuitonga @BasilMLeodoro @AshBloomfield Watch: bit.ly/3COT5ps
Attended the @MedicalPasifika 28th Conference in Christchurch, themed βVunilagi ni Bula Sautu: Living Our Best Lives,β was inspiring!
Honored to present on the DFAT-funded Ngalu Fanifo Project in Vanuatu & reconnect with colleagues. Grateful for the insights & collaboration!
I couldn't have said it better. Weβre at the forefront of service delivery, not in control of how resources are allocated to us. While we remain committed to our duties, we wonβt compromise our safety to mask systemic shortcomings

An important training, and to have it onboard HELPR-1 is very fitting
9 days away from the start of cyclone season. With the support of @global_respond, the MOHπ»πΊ is conducting EMT provincial training this week, onboard MV HELPR-1. As part of preparedness, this strengthens the provincial capability and capacity to lead and respond locally.
The saddest thing is that a lot of people are taking their frutmstrations out on the teachers when they should be directed towards the govt.
Conducting EMT (Emergency Medical Teams) training for SHEFA Province, Vanuatu, this week. Our clinicians are familliar with responding to disasters but this training further enhances their knowledge and skills and will greatly benefit the overall MoH disaster prep & response.
A boat with 4 men drowned yesterday. Only 2 swam ashore, over more than 6hrs. 2 are still missing. π Despite weather warning over the radio, they set sail. This is also why traditional skills in reading and understanding weather patterns is important.
Our generation, deemed more enlightened, struggles to pass on cultural wisdom, knowledge, and skills to the next generationβthe inevitable shortfall in our legacy.
My hardest moment as a Boss/Team Leader is when a colleague is going thru a rough time and breaks down in front of you. The whole team dynamic shifts. π
A novel (and quite exciting) experience to navigate the manuscript submission process. Now we wait π¬
