A lot of Nigerians in the US get sucked into jobs that pay overtime and end up staying there for years with no real plan to move forward.
Those jobs were never supposed to be your final destination. They should be a stepping stone. You do it for a year or two, stabilize yourself, make your money, then start planning your next move.
I see adults in their 30s, 40s, 50s and even 60s packing shifts back-to-back, working 60–70 hours every week, exhausting themselves, and sometimes still not earning enough to justify the amount of time and energy they’re giving away.
Any job that requires you to constantly convert your physical energy and extra hours into more money will eventually wear you out. Meanwhile, the person approving your 70 hour week may be working a regular 9–5, earning more than you and still having their evenings and weekends.
Use overtime as a tool, not a lifestyle.
Improve yourself. Take a course. Write that exam. Get a certification. Learn a skill. Update your resume and start applying for better opportunities.
The goal shouldn’t always be to work more hours to make more money. At some point, the goal should be to make more money for the hours you already work.

This is what this "brilliance" looks like over an actual life.
You arrive legally, pay PAYE, NI, visa fees, and thousands upfront for the IHS(the highest fees in the world).
Five years later, you may be settled, but the safety net you funded is still kept behind another locked door.
Even before settlement, healthcare was not a completely open door for you. In England, the NHS may investigate infertility, but an IHS payer is excluded from funded IVF, IUI & donor treatment. One private IVF cycle averages about £5,000 before medication & storage.
"It can never be you", but no one who has ever needed these services felt it would be them.
Then, thank God a child arrives. No Child Benefit. If wages fall, no Universal Credit child element. Some funded childcare survives NRPF, but the UC scheme that can repay up to 85% of childcare costs is unavailable, so the family quietly absorbs the gap. Wild guess how many families in Britain do you think do not/have not used one of these in their lifetime?
Then work disappears( I know, it can never be you) or the rent rises. New Style JSA may exist if the NI record is strong enough, but there is no UC for living costs or rent, no Council Tax Reduction, and no ordinary route into social housing or homelessness assistance. That your cash ISA you're proud of will disappear before your eyes. You may be in your 20s now and alone but you won't be like that forever.
Then someone unfortunately has a stroke. The NHS may stabilise them & offer short-term rehabilitation or reablement, usually free for no more than 6 weeks. But a serious brain injury does not check the calendar & recover once it has reached week six.
After that, long-term physio, OT & personal care become a negotiation across NHS & council boundaries. NRPF does not erase the right to a Care Act but neither route is automatic, a lot of immigrants are left high and dry—even NHS workers.
Meanwhile, PIP is closed. If a partner cuts work to become your carer, Carer's Allowance is closed. If savings are drained by rent & daily care, UC is closed. The body may still receieve healing as the surrounding household around it collapses.
Nobody "wants benefits". Nobody wants infertility, redundancy, a stroke or a serious life changing event.
The point of a safety net is that a careful life can still split open without warning. After years of paying in, migrants should not be insured only against "good luck". I don't think people fully understand what "they don't want any anyway".

The Bible was written in real places, among real nations, throughout real history.
These weren’t fictional lands. They were kingdoms, empires, and nations where God revealed Himself, judged rulers, raised prophets, delivered His people, and fulfilled His promises.

Sometimes, you read a story that makes the blood in your veins run cold.
Blessing's baby, Victory, was born premature and diagnosed with hydrocephalus (fluid in the brain), and she needs an urgent ₦1,000,000 surgery to survive.
Instead of support, Blessing’s husband called her a witch for having a sick child and threw her and their baby out onto the street.
Now, Blessing is alone, fighting for her daughter's life with nothing.
Her husband turned his back, but we will not.
AprokoNation, let's be the family she needs right now. Let's save Victory.

My brother protect your stomach and that of your kids, nobody is coming to take Yoruba land. Nigeria didn't start when Tinubu came to limelight and won't end in his time.
The supposed enemies are busy with their day to day activities making profits, it's only lazy people that are looking for attention where they should be working for survival in this hard times of our lives in the hands of Tinubu and APC.

"tinubu will win the election" is a disempowering tactic. They want you to lose hope and not try. Don't give in. There's only so much rigging they can do. If the people overwhelmingly vote against them they will leave with their tail between their legs. We're going again for Obi!

IMMIGRANTS: LET YOUR CHILDREN KNOW YOUR ROOTS
Sometimes, I wake up and weep over the stories I heard and the cases I dealt with the day before. The story of a man or woman who is now old and is abandoned by the children he/she spent their whole life raising.
The children became an adult, got married and moved away from the family house and they never looked back. Some of the children in this generation can be so selfish and unforgiving sometimes over petty family squabbles.
I spent my early years in Nigeria and self-sponsored myself to the UK. I have spent the last 33 years in the UK and counting. I was on the floor. I was on the dunghill. Life was terrible but it is getting better. So I mixed with the poor and the rich. I have been a pastor for close to 21 years and have been a lawyer for longer than that. I feed on people’s private information which they voluntarily share with me. Please hear me out.
I want to appeal as an elderly immigrant in the UK to fellow African immigrants, let, your children know where you come from. Take them to your country of origin. Take them to your old schools. Take them to some rich suburbs. Take them to the ghetto. Let them know that the UK is not the world. Once these children grow up here, they will not remember that they are Africans. Most of them! Their mentality is unusually narrow and rigid.
It is okay now. You are young. Everything is working. You are making money. Your favourite holiday destination is America, Canada, Mainland Europe, Dubai, Turkey and the rest but your home country is a no-go area. You are a careless parent. You will find out as you grow older that you need your country. You need your people. You will be lonely and frustrated.
For example, if you are from Nigeria like me, you will realize that there is no place like home. I can afford to travel anywhere in the world but my experience of Nigeria is unique. I was there five times last year. There is serious hardship there and there is also abundance. Being among your people is different. Positioning makes the difference.
There is suffering in the UK and there is also discrimination based on race and colour. There is also stylish suppression. It takes a strong will to succeed here. I can tell you that from experience. What is making you happy today will soon become burdensome.
Many old people who spent their life and resources raising their children are confined to an old people’s home at the end of their lives. They approach me to write their will but they spend the majority of their time with me talking of their regrets. They said their children did not look back and they think like English people. They also confess that it was their fault because they did not let them know about Africa, did not say anything good about their country of origin and they did not take them home once. What a shame!
Hear me younger people, no matter how rich you are in the UK, have a property in a secure area in your home country that you can take your children to from time to time. Talk to them about your country. I do that with young Africans including my children. They came back to thank me. Don’t get carried away. Things do change.
Whilst reading this, you may embrace it or dismiss it but don’t discard this post. May you remember me with thanksgiving in your heart tomorrow.
Dele Olawanle is my name. I write and speak to make lives better. If you have been inspired, follow me for more brain-jangling writings.

So no student from "our Lagos" made it to the top 10 of this year's best jamb scores and why are there so many igbos on that list.
We Lagosians need to do all it takes to send the igbos out of Lagos, because their presence is blocking the head of our students.
IGBO MUST GO
