How it started & How it's going. We pulled it off. Got a crowd fund. Hospital pitched in. Found supporters. Begged. Borrowed. Finally this baby, coming all the way from Delhi, underwent successful liver transplantation at my centre and is now getting discharged. I must admit, I rolled the ball, but the whole game was because of so many other important people in the team and not me. Every little macro-management and micro-management was through a small WhatsApp group, consisting of doctors from Delhi and Kochi. Huge thanks to the pediatrics and nutrition team from AIIMS, Delhi and the transplant surgery team and critical care team at my hospital for creating this miracle, which we call medical science. But the true heroes of this journey are these critical care and transplant nurses, and the mother who donated a part of her liver. The mother's blood group was incompatible, so we followed a protocol to make it compatible and then transplanted part of her liver to her child with this rare genetic disease and now he can live and dream like a normal child. A simple request on social media. A life changing event for a son and his mother. Glad I decided to respond. This is the butterfly effect.
