Santigold on nostalgia and the whitewashing of indie sleaze: "At the best of it, you get inspired from the past to create something new for the future. I feel like in this era, we’re forgetting to run it through our own self and experience and create something new. It’s more like copy and paste." As "indie sleaze" has become inescapable online in recent years, a generation of boundary-pushing Black artists have been overlooked. @Santigold, Spank Rock, and @kilokish remember a scene far more diverse and experimental than today’s nostalgia suggests. i don’t like going to shows with predominantly white crowds because they don’t respect the artists. just excessively loud, talk through everything and careless about the experience they ruining for the audience, every time.

All of you that are Twitter music industry experts should absolutely be tracking all of these mass layoffs just as much as you do album sales, charts, views and gossip. You wanna know why your favorite artists aren’t dropping music? It’s because the black side of the label office is empty.
