How Ukraine outmaneuvered Russian troops in Operation Vivaldi
Operation Vivaldi was until recently a top-secret counteroffensive in the Lyman sector in the northern part of Donetsk Oblast.

⚡️Ukraine advances EU membership bid with 4 of 6 integration to-do lists unlocked
Ukraine celebrated the opening of two more EU enlargement clusters at a ceremony in Luxembourg on Oct. 13, a key milestone in the process to eventually become a member state.
This is one of several hits in Kyiv just today.
Difficult to convey how much this escalated lately.
It’s 10 pm on a Friday now, and the city was under attack for the total of seven hours today so far. The latest air raid alert ended five minutes ago.
At least three people were injured and hospitalized, one in grave condition, and a 14-year-old was killed after a Russian drone struck a high-rise residential building in Kyiv’s central Pecherskyi district around 8 a.m. on Sept. 25, local authorities reported. Emergency services are working on site as the impact caused a fire between the 7th and 10th floors.

On my way now from Kyiv to SĂŁo Paulo to speak at the 2026 PiauĂ Journalism Festival @festivalpiaui, organized by @revistapiaui.
I’m pretty sure this is the farthest from Ukraine I've had the chance to travel to speak about our work.
It's an anxious time to leave Kyiv, as the city is under intensified, and constant, attacks, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to speak about the story of the Kyiv Independent and Ukraine in Brazil, for the first time.

FROZEN ASSETS SCOOP (...I think, hope, pray)!
The @KyivIndependent has seen a draft letter prepared by Sweden and backed by the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain, for the EU to reopen the discussion on Russian frozen assets, due to be sent on Aug. 27.

Well, a month later, he decided to do it.
Zelensky created a rival, and not any rival, but one who takes pages from Zelensky’s own playbook — Fedorov’s positioning mirrors that of Zelensky when he ran against Poroshenko in 2019. Fedorov co-wrote that playbook with him.
Here’s the thing: If Mykhailo Fedorov was after personal gains, he would not be fighting to return to Defense Ministry.
He would ride this wave of protests to a solo political career. And yet you don’t see him doing that.

It’s really hard to overstate how damaging the decision to remove Fedorov could be for the war effort.
Zelensky has chosen political ego and nepotism over winning the war and saving lives.
Not the first time, but probably the most critical.
Removing Mykhailo Fedorov as defense minister when Ukraine is finally turning the tide of the war will be one of the biggest mistakes on Zelensky’s record, and one that can prove tragic for the country.

A big step for us at @KyivIndependent, our first newsroom-produced field report shown on traditional broadcast TV, and in my home of Australia at that.
Big thanks to @DatelineSBS for not falling silent on Ukraine, and to @ambvasyl for sharing.
A powerful report by Australian journalist @francisjfarrell from the frontlines of Ukraine. As Russia's war enters its fifth year, millions of Ukrainians continue to live under the constant threat of missiles, drones and bombardment. Francis helps Australian audiences understand the human reality behind the headlines and what Ukrainians endure every day in defence of their freedom. Well worth watching.

Greetings from the G7 where the Brit in denial working for a Ukrainian media is sitting next to the German table (Kyiv’s strongest ally gets my company).
I’ll be reporting from here for @KyivIndependent, DMs open for your questions!
Ukrainians who participate in resistance in occupied territories are some of the bravest people that walk the earth.
They deserve better than to be turned into a token that guarantees the flow of Western funding to people in Kyiv, Dubai, and London.
Even now the movement actively downplays risks, openly claiming pro-Ukrainian actions in occupied territory "are not subject to criminal prosecution even under Russian law, but can only entail administrative liability."
Yes, you read that right. They rely on Russian law.
