What a night ✨
Hosting ~100 people at a side event in Houston with @margentambi and Zekarias’s of @AfriFintech yesterday and it was everything we wanted and more. The energy was palpable. The conversations were amazing and the venue was top class! The diaspora is a force!

I’ve been a power user of instinct, tried to push its limits today and it worked. Asked it to reach out to the place I last printed my business cards. It designed the card, reached out to the place (walking distance) and place the order. Came back to confirm balance and I approved payment. I walked over to pick up the order and it turned out perfect. I saved at least 30 mins throughout the process.

Congrats Joe, first Togolese founder in that cohort is a real milestone.
Moving capital across borders is still the unsexy bottleneck. Looking forward to what you ship.
Excited to be part of this cohort. Hopefully more videos like this IJN

Africa’s retail-investing boom is exposing a problem beneath the apps: the infrastructure connecting investors to capital markets isn’t always ready for the demand.
Dangote Refinery’s $1.6 billion IPO is a useful test. When the offer opened in Nigeria, fintech platforms Bamboo and Cowrywise struggled with a surge in traffic.
But the infrastructure challenge looks different outside Nigeria. For Zimbabweans, accessing the IPO through Bard Santner Investors requires regulatory approvals, cross-border bank transfers and nominee arrangements. Applications have largely been handled manually, with a minimum investment of $20,000.
The bigger lesson is that “digital access” is only one part of investing. A transaction can depend on fintech apps, banks, brokers, payment rails, KYC providers and other third-party services. When one link struggles, the whole experience can slow down.
Africa wants more retail investors in its capital markets. To get there, the infrastructure behind the interfaces needs to scale too.
