Earth’s laws project out forever into the heavens; its jurisdictions rotate w/ it. Nations’ terrestrial spatial partition is converted to a periodic partition of time on faraway planets. As the US–Mexico terminator sweeps through Virgo, 18 yr olds on 70 Vir B pour into the bars

Bitcoin hashrate has dropped by ~45% over past 3 days, presumably due to Chinese miners relocating equipment for the dry season.
Hopefully in coming years the semi-annual hashrate fluctuations will decrease in volatility as China's share of hashrate continues to drop.

The influential 8086 processor is 42 years old this month, so I took high-res die photos to celebrate. The 8086 is the origin of the x86 architecture still used by most desktop and server computers. Its microcode bits are visible under the microscope.

ALT Die photo of the 8086 microprocessor. The metal and polysilicon layers were removed to expose the underlying silicon. Functional blocks are labeled: Adder, Upper registers, Lower registers, ALU, Control, Decode, and Microcode.
ALT A closeup view of the microcode ROM. It is arranged in a grid pattern. Individual bits are visible as rectangles.
ALT Die photo of the 8086 showing the metal layer. Bond wires are connected to the edges of the square die.
ALT A closeup of some transistors in the 8086. They appear as purple regions with complex shapes.

Social networks can skew our perception of where people stand, leading us to make bad decisions on public sentiment.
This analysis applies particularly well to cryptotwitter, especially when newcomers start out from a skewed, censored source.

So yesterday at brunch, my father in law says “so this Facebook coin, it’s a thing huh? But it’s totally controlled by them and they can print as much as they want, so it’s basically the exact opposite of the point of Bitcoin right?”
