It was so great to meet up with @RiffelJamie to catch up & reflect on our first year experiences. Her student are so lucky to have her as a teacher. (I was so lucky to have her as a student teacher!) Sometimes the best professional learning happens over drinks and apps. 🍹 🍤 🌮
In which she wrote a handwritten note to all the teachers who worked on curriculum over the summer to express her gratitude. And had an aching hand but a grateful heart. ✍️ 🗒️
Today every fourth grader entered a magical forest of their own making. Embracing spontaneity & creative risks, they staged A Midsummer Night's Dream w/ guidance from Shakespeare Theatre of NJ. Bravo to the cast & all who supported them from rehearsals to final show! 🎭 🧚 🫏
When you reach out to an author & say, "Our early career teachers did a book study with one of your titles this year. Would you consider sending us a brief video recording and some words of encouragement?" And instead, the author says, "I'd love to join you in real time!" 🙏🙏🙏
I am hiring two ELA middle school teachers! Deadline is 5/18 to apply:

One week into #NationalPoetryMonth! This year for my monthly poetry writing project, I've launched a blog platform. (I know... haven't blogged in years...2005 called, it wants its blog back 🤣) But for a shorter term project, it is working for me: poetryaspractice.blogspot.co…
What a fantastic day at #NJCTE25 Props to Mike Rex and Cat Min for their brilliance and generosity. Leadership Roundtables were a hit as well. Thanks to all the NJCTE conference coordinators, and TCNJ for such a great event. ❤️

When conferring with readers and writers, having clear and predictable structures is so helpful. This is my go-to structure for goal-setting conferences, which comes from my book, A Teacher’s Guide to Reading Conferences heinemann.com/products/e0991…
What a fantastic event this evening at @curiousreaderNJ Let’s Fly is the story of Captain @barringtonirving cowritten with @chanastiefel and illustrated by @shamarknightjustice I will never outgrow my love of #picturebooks and every opportunity to meet authors is a gift!

As a teacher, it's SO important to stay cognitively engaged in your work—& in a blended learning environment, opportunities to architect learning experiences help you do just that.

If you get nothing else from today’s conference, walk away with this message - know your students more than your content! #ConnectionsOverContent @amtnj #mathed

My new favorite word: sonder.
It's the profound awareness that every person you encounter has experienced a lifetime of hopes, fears, loves, and heartaches that you'll never know.
Each moment of sonder is a reminder to appreciate how little we truly grasp about others' lives.
