🇪🇬🇮🇱🇸🇦🇾🇪 Egypt Sends Egyptian Mercenaries to Yemen, and Yemen’s Answer Could Strangle Europe’s Oil Although Saudi Arabia treats Egyptians residing within its borders like slaves and subjects them to daily humiliation, the Egyptian parliament has authorized Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to send Egyptian mercenaries to Saudi Arabia to join the genocidal war against Yemen alongside Jolani mercenaries. Cairo is already deeply entangled in another conflict. Egypt remains an ally of Israel in its genocidal war on Gaza. Egypt works as a watchdog for Israel, enforcing the blockade on Gaza and causing mass famine there. Yet that alliance has endured even after Israeli forces seized the Philadelphi Corridor on May 7, 2024, in violation of the peace treaty. Egypt has a painful history in Yemen. The last time Egypt sent Egyptian mercenaries to Yemen was under Gamal Abdel Nasser. They went on September 26, 1962, to interfere in Yemeni politics. Of 75,000 Egyptian mercenaries, 26,000 were slaughtered. Most of their bodies were never recovered or repatriated to Egypt. Yemen has warned Egypt against sending Egyptian mercenaries to kill Yemeni people on behalf of Saudi Arabia. The expectation is that Yemen’s first target in Egypt would be the SUMED pipeline. That line carries Persian Gulf oil heading to Europe. One strike would strangle Europe’s energy supply and panic world markets. The danger is certain and closing in. Cairo airport and other airports across Egypt would be legitimate targets for the Yemeni armed forces as well.
