It was great to present my research, "Regional and Field Scale Estimates of Groundwater Withdrawals using Remote Sensing and Climate Data," at the inaugural @openetdata #OpenET Applications Conference 2024 today in Albuquerque, New Mexico! My talk today was the culmination of the past 4.5 years of my research in developing integrated remote sensing and data-driven methods to estimate agricultural groundwater pumping across multiple regions in the U.S. Thanks to all my colleagues, collaborators, mentors, and funding agencies for supporting this research. It was also amazing to connect with so many folks from different agencies across the private, non-profit, and government sectors.
Special thanks to @watermapper for encouraging me to attend and present at this conference! And thanks, @FahimHydroSense for the photos :)

Proud to see so many of my @USGS_EROS colleagues participating in #WorldWaterWeek2022 with @AsstSecTrujillo James Rowland, Mike Budde, and Dr. Gabriel Senay (of @openetdata ET fame)!! Sounds like a great panel.
Great @Interior panel today at #WorldWaterWeek2022 with @USGS and @usbr - “Parched:Drought Planning, Adaptation and Response”. We are helping communities in the US and around the world respond to the urgent challenges of climate change and drought.

Using @openetdata to get ETc for pseudo estimation of groundwater pumping seems a promising way for getting some good numbers to start with. Dr. Rohit from RRG-PE Svcs. highlighted some of the issues he encountered while following this approach @ TX Groundwater Summit 2022. (1/2)

Response from John Entsminger @SNWA_H20: "We are a firm believers you can’t manage what you can’t measure. OpenET will give us a tool to see where water is consumed. His example: An ET study found changing the species of grass could save water at places like schools and parks.

@maurice_water's answer: “If we want irrigated agriculture to be resilient, we’re going to need to manage that water more closely. To do that we need good information: how much water is being used by crops and recharging groundwater.”

Replying to @SenCortezMasto
@SenCortezMasto focuses on water data and how the the purpose of @OpenETdata is to make water data public. Why is that important?

I am trying to think of some scientific processing use cases that cannot be done in #EarthEngine. I can only think of hydrology modeling
What are some examples from the community that you wish could be done in Earth Engine but not yet there?
