"The vulnerability impacts Apache Log4j 2 versions 2.0 to 2.14.1.", i.e not Hadoop, which is on 1.19. ironically people regularly complain about a reported CVE there on a feature (log viewer servlet) we don't deploy (and CDH log4j releases cut completely)

This surprised a lot of people but it has been discussed for a while at the (open to the public) OpenZFS leadership meetings. ZoL now has higher development velocity than the illumos based implementation so it makes sense to switch to it as the "upstream"

one common misconception is that having data swapped to disk makes your programs slow. It doesn't! What makes programs slow is constantly having data moving back and forth between RAM and disk ("swapping" or "paging")
