Replying to @BootsHelp
@BootsHelp We received an incomplete order. Refund claim was closed, no explanation, £100 out of pocket. Customer service refused to help and accused my wife of lying and fraud with racist undertones. I need to know how to write a formal letter of complaint and get redress.
I deleted the now-disabled Tweetbot app from my phone - an app I’d used many times a day for years - and I have no desire to replace it with the default Twitter app, which is worse. Follow me on Mastodon instead if you wish.
I tried to open Mastodon after creating a (second?) account last week but it asked me to log in again (?) and I can’t remember which server I arbitrarily picked and now I can’t even do a p/w reset. The federated concept is too confusing for this to work at scale.
When someone comes to my door to say “trick or treat” I’ve always understood it as blackmail: give me a treat or I’ll play a trick on you. But someone at my door now is insisting it’s me who is meant to either give them a treat or play a trick and now my confidence is shaken.
How to spell “manoeuvre”: type “m”. Add all the vowels. Put an “re” at the end. Let autocorrect do the rest.
Parcel from @Dyson was delivered by @RoyalMailHelp to a corner shop post office according to tracker, but they don’t have it, and want nothing to do with us. They say call Dyson. Dyson says call Royal Mail. Royal Mail says speak to post office. Despair. Not clear how to resolve.
I enjoy building guitars (“partscasters”). I don’t need more guitars (certainly not more Strats or Teles etc…). This creates an intolerable conundrum.
I wish Apple would make “pro” phones that are not for photographers. I have kept my iPhone X alive for a long time but it’s time. I want the latest industrial design, best battery, screen and speed. I do not want a giant camera bump, or more weight. :(
I am very poorly read but armed with a Kindle. Who can recommend me some fiction, preferably sci-fi?
Super excited by this. :)

I have some domains with register.com. They email me incessantly, asking me to call (!) a US number (!) to “save 20%” on renewing them, no unsubscribe link. Any recommendations for less annoying providers, and how to safely transfer?
Is there a way to stop the Amazon app (nay, every app!) from sending ads in push notifications? (I would not like a hot tub)
I’m contemplating getting a Backbone One game controller for my iPhone and something like XBox Game Pass or Google Stadia to play cloud games on the couch. No interest in buying a console; we already have a Switch. Is this a viable/good idea? Is gaming over 4G on the move viable?
It’s kind of amazing that Amazon can ship me the third party sleeve I bought for my new Kindle in a day, but the Kindle itself takes at least 3 days and has an uncertain delivery estimate even though it’s “in stock”.
This is a good point. I’m still using a c. 5 year old iPhone X, now on its third aftermarket battery and second back glass. I prefer the form factor to the newer Pros and don’t use the camera. This has saved lots of money and waste.
The most insane thing about the tech sector that we just accept as normal is that so many pricey gadgets are built to be thrown out when the battery dies—an environmental travesty.
Those hidden "death dates" should be made public, @geoffreyfowler says. washingtonpost.com/technolog…
