New article: deriving the math behind Solady’s `cbrt(x)` implementation from first principles. What is the 0x90b5e5 constant actually doing? original implementation by @duncancmt * Why cube root needs magic multipliers * Why sqrt does not * Optimal Initial guess * Exactly 5 Newton Rashson iterations Full blog post: atarpara.github.io/solady-cb…

If one thing, the club needs to update the metric from BMI to BF%, to reflect advancements in science. Having sufficient lower body muscle to maintain a low BF% with > 1500kcals is the new flex.

As AI is now strong enough to replace me, bi-weekly posting shall be paused indefinitely until further notice. Tbh, all we want is to eat freely and stay healthy / ripped. Not sure if AI can solve that. Sth Activin E inhibitors / DNP prodrugs. Gong xi fa cai. Xin nian quai le.

Using AI to recreate Starbucks peppermint mocha: - 1 Nespresso Kazaar shot. - 1 heaped teaspoon of organic non-alkalized cocoa. - 170mL milk of your choice. - 0.5mL of 5mL food grade Hakka mint oil diluted in 100mL food grade Propylene Glycol.

Random post: Sometimes, I marvel at how the human body is able to run for decades autonomously. We grow wiser as we get older. We get stronger as we train. Some humans like Bryan Johnson even age backwards. In software, it’s super rare that something can run for > 5 years without updates. APIs break. Web scrapers break. LTS get to EOL, and apt-get breaks. You get a call from a past client asking why the software isn’t working anymore. Slack suddenly requires a new MacOS unsupported by your machine. Sometimes it’s Python2 to Python3 typeshit. Almost always, the upstream changes aren’t even desirable, they are simply for the sake of change. Perhaps this is why I vibe with Ethereum. Write once, run forever. Smart contract devs do think about what happens at year 2106, when uint32 overflows. Imo, AGI is achieved internally when an LLM no longer needs a battalion of engineers fighting toolchain deprecations behind the scenes.

Wait… correction. I might not bump Solady to require ^0.8.13 yet. It’s forge-std that moved from ^0.8.4 -> ^0.8.13, not foundry. Phew.

Visiting rural Japan on train is inspirational. Even tho there’s no next quarter economic upside to maintaining service, they still do it to a much higher quality compared to American lines.

Note: `smear` is a more fundamental operation than `nextPo2`, and is can be used for stuff like memory allocation. Might add to solady. Glad that the `clz(0) = 256` behavior lends to nice branchless code in most applications.

Fusaka brings the CLZ opcode to the EVM, which enables new ways to perform the same math. Today, we need to use a binary search to compute log10. After Fusaka, we can use CLZ to compute log2, then do a cheap correction step to compute the log10. The math behind the log2 -> log10 trick is from graphics.stanford.edu/~seand… with a few tweaks adapted for Solidity and the EVM.

The Solidity function dispatcher is a tree where: - Internal nodes perform binary splits. - Leaf nodes contain up to 4 function selectors, tested linearly. Protip 1: the `fallback` function's bytecode is generated twice in the bytecode. To reduce bytecode size, wrap the fallback logic in an internal function. Protip 2: if you have a very frequently used function, make an alias with a `0x00000000` function selector, which makes it the cheapest to lookup.

- One of the challenges in designing a library will be what algo should be used. Look up why C++’s map is a tree, unordered_map only came 15 years later. - Libraries with generics heavily depends on compiler’s ability to zero-cost-abstract with minimal nudging. In Solady, we sometimes do very disgusting stuff to nudge the compiler. Why writing Rust and C++ feels good is cuz the compiler is smart enough to not need all these nudging. So core Solidity would need a really good optimizer to go beyond syntax sugar generic niceties. - Cautious on a possible Python 2 vs 3 situation. Hope learnings in core can and will trickle back to classic. - In a world of classic and core Solidity, Solady plans to maintain and develop for both. Languages with a crazy standard library, still has third party libraries (e.g. Eigen), for domain specific knowledge.
Presenting 'The Road to Core Solidity', a series of blog posts through which we will share where we are headed with the language. Let's take a look at the overview!

I’ll be vacationing next week from 18th Oct to 27 Oct in Japan. Recipe for yaki miso tilapia pasta soup: - Spread 1 tbps shiro miso onto a ceramic non-stick pan. - Ramp pan from room temp to 150°C (302°F) on Breville Control Freak. Miso’s Maillard point is quite low. - Once reached, quench pan with 200mL of room temp water. - Add dried scallops, hold at 95°C (203°F) for 1 min. - Add a frozen tilapia. Drop pan to 65°C (149°F), and hold for 20 mins. - Add 1 tbps of sukiyaki sauce to the miso soup. - Start boiling your pasta of choice to 1 min pre al-dente and drain and leave in the final bowl to dry. - Pour the miso soup into the final bowl and serve.
