After 21 hours of work, across 5 days...
This is my character concept for Shang-Chi in Marvel Rivals (artwork credit to Divebound Studio - Marvel Snap and biyopic on instagram). Shang-Chi is one of my favorite Marvel characters that I desparately want in this game
I built him with the idea of creating a character with high skill expression but still a decently low entry level for people to pick up. Focusing on quick movement and applying pressure, he's meant to be a flex brawl dps with the ability to swing into the backline (similar to Blade and Mr Fantastic)
It was very difficult to create a martial artist that didn't step on the toes of Iron Fist but I think I found a good way to balance him and give him his own identity

Mr Fant gets every tech we find patched almost immediately. They WANT this character to remain F-tier and it’s so fucking depressing dude. I just want to play my fav hero… 😭

Yea Invis coulda healed you, it would have taken not even 2 seconds to pop a shield on you (which I woulda done)
BUT, you went 3rd dps instead of 2nd support so you (and the other 2 dps) do NOT get to ask for heals AT ALL. Find a healthpack lol

Hmm, I think I agree with this to an extent. I do think "specializing" in a specific character is definitely the best way to learn that character's every skill option and how to play into counters
That being said, to be a true OTP means that if you get target banned, you're screwed. It also means that if you're an OTP on a dps character, you're forcing everyone else to work around you. If you get a team with 6 dps OTPs, what're you gonna do then??
So yea, specialize in your favorite hero! Invest hundreds of hours into them. Not only will you be incredibly skilled in that character but it will also maximize your enjoyment of playing the game
But you need 1-2 backup characters in the bag (probably one in your main role and another in a second role) for when your main is banned or you need to fill
Over the past couple Days ive seen people Talk about "OTPs" and Trackers a lot
And whoever says "OTPs are bad at the game" is ironicly fundamentaly bad at the game
Without OTPS we wouldnt have Fantastic Players hitting Rank 1, we wouldnt have Spidey OTPs hittin Rank 1, we wouldnt have Magik/BP/Ironfist Players in OAA
Onetricking is the epithomy of Skill expression, since you learn to play into your counters and in the end win against the odds
Players that flex a lot are not good players, they rely on the games design to win their games and not on their own skills as players.
If a game were truly competitive, EVERY SINGLE HERO IN THE GAME would have to be ONETRICKED, to be able to be played at the highest Level
That, is the truth you are trying to avoid and scared to admit.
