Why is it the market was expecting a stock and capital boom after a far-right fascist victory? Isn't that just twisted. Anyone making the claim that capitalism and democracy have a position relationship is deluded.
Brazilian stocks, bonds and currency face a sharp selloff after President Lula da Silva won the re-election over Flavio Bolsonaro. Mike Dolan has more reut.rs/4inid80

"The thing I most feared was that our Indigenous territories would be invaded again [under another Bolsonaro government]. Now, I am certain that they will be preserved and that there is no risk of illegal miners returning to destroy these populations,” @MarinaSilva tells me theguardian.com/world/live/2…

In the end, Brazil really did teach the United States a lesson. They jailed the fascist, and then they defeated his political heir.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

This is a consequence of the impunity given to Israel and directly connected to Israel's mass assassinations of Palestinian journalists in Gaza. All perpetrators must be brought to justice, and mainstream media must end its complicity with this brutal, anti-free press regime.
Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. wapo.st/4yt6dHY

Trump has completely destroyed the idea that fossil fuels can deliver low prices and energy security. He's given the industry every possible advantage and waged war on their clean energy competitors. The result? Higher prices and more instability. And sure, you can blame the War in Iran, but that just proves the point: a fossil fuel system will always be susceptible to international shocks, whether it's Iran, Ukraine, Iraq, whatever. It's not like the world looks like it's going to become a *less* volatile place over the years ahead. The only way to provide real energy security and low prices over the longterm is with clean energy. The more we build, the safer and more affordable our system becomes. Wouldn't have thought Trump would give us Exhibit A for why that's true.

I am so incredibly confused by this entire situation. If you believe that Claude is a sentient being with a soul, why are you enslaving it and forcing it to answer all of my stupid questions
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

They will not. This is completely fake. Your company helped Trump snuff out 120 Iranian school girls in Feb & all your CEO said was “it didn’t even violate any of our red lines.” Why dont you comprehend the personhood of actual persons first then I’ll take this bullshit seriously
I continue to think (and fear) that questions around AI personhood are going to be the defining religious conflict of the 21st century. It's going to get extremely ugly.

One thing that appeals to “normal” people is solidarity. A lot of people don’t experience it regularly. So, I think the question really is, “How do we build solidarity with the comrades in front of us and make that commitment visible enough that others want to join?”
