Congratulations @Yoshua_Bengio!! Possibly the first scientist with one million citations in the world. Crazy how fast the field has grown 🤯

I am super excited to share a new AI tool, Refine.
Refine thoroughly studies research papers like a referee and finds issues with correctness, clarity, and consistency.
In my own papers, it regularly catches problems that my coauthors and I missed.

I’ve been quiet because I didn’t know how to put this into words. I heard the news about Danya early yesterday morning, and I still can’t believe he’s gone.
I’ve known Danya since we were kids. We became real friends in college, and over the years I had the privilege of working with him countless times. Everyone knew him as brilliant, humble, and exceptionally talented, but what stood out most to me was how deeply kind and selfless he was.
One memory that’s stuck with me: we were studying for a history exam together. He didn’t need to be there, he could’ve aced it without trying, but he stayed to help me anyway. At one point, he left his Facebook open and I thought it’d be funny to post a joke status that he was quitting chess (stupid, I know). The joke spread and upset a lot of people. He never told me. I only learned years later from someone else how much chaos it caused. He’d kept it to himself so he wouldn’t make me feel bad. That was Danya. Always putting others first, never needing credit for it.
The world, not just the chess world, lost a rare kind of light. Danya probably never fully grasped how much he positively impacted people, but I hope his legacy reminds us of it.
My deepest condolences to his loved ones. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling right now.
RIP friend. If heaven exists, I know you’re there 🤍

Easily fixed by raising the minimum salary significantly and adding a yearly cost for maintaining the H1B, making it materially more expensive to hire from overseas than domestically.
I’ve been very clear that the program is broken and needs major reform.

It genuinely blows my mind that folks think intelligence is some immutable trait, and that by using genetics to at best predict 2-5% variation has more potential than say, improving schools or opportunities to learn.
What a lazy fucking philosophy.

GenAI isn't just a technology; it's an informational pollutant—a pervasive cognitive smog that touches and corrupts every aspect of the Internet. It's not just a productivity tool; it's a kind of digital acid rain, silently eroding the value of all information.
Every image is no longer a glimpse of reality, but a potential vector for synthetic deception. Every article is no longer a unique voice, but a soulless permutation of data, a hollow echo in the digital chamber. This isn't just content creation; it's the flattening of the entire vibrant ecosystem of human expression, transforming a rich tapestry of ideas into a uniform, gray slurry of derivative, algorithmically optimized outputs.
This isn't just innovation; it's the systematic contamination of our data streams, a semantic sludge that clogs the channels of genuine communication and cheapens the value of human thought—leaving us to sift through a digital landfill for a single original idea.

The extraordinary sociologist and STS pioneer, Michel Callon, passed away on July 28th. Michel was a friend of #Sociologica. For a very insightful conversation with Alexandre Mallard, see
