Painted Wolf Wednesday
The painted wolf has been a part of recorded human life for at least 5000 years, with the earliest known depiction from the ceramic palette from the Predynastic Naqada period of Ancient Egypt.

While the pack is hunting, a babysitter stays with the pups at the den. Whilst still lactating, this tends to be the alpha female, but is often an aunt or uncle.

Painted wolves are what's known as crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk. In order to beat the harsh African sun, they will spend much of their day sleeping in the shade

Muzzle licking is one of the many social behaviours that painted wolves display. Typically, this is an act of submission and friendliness between pack members.

It is with unfathomable sadness that I have to announce the passing of Diane Skinner; my incredible wife, devoted daughter of John and Margie,
them.
Her short life’s impactful work was never driven by a sense of self, but by a deep passion she had for the world and the animals she loved.
Painted wolves have been observed to roll around in other animals’ droppings. This behaviour helps to disguise their naturally musky odour that they emit from their entire bodies, meaning they can 'camouflage' more easily on a hunt!

Painted wolves have a very complex hierarchal structure within their packs. This consists of an alpha male and female, and the remaining subordinate members, each with their own ranking.

Remarkable from @ZCP_Zambia - a very intrepid group of painted wolves dispersing into Mozambique.
