We desperately need beds in AB.
We don't need our premier trying to fool us that we have them.
If we could even get back to the bed number we had in 2000 it would be a massive improvement.
GoA: set a goal and then get it done!

The CFD Wainwright fire is quickly overwhelming burn units in Alberta which has a total of 16 burn beds
8 are located at the Edmonton Firefighter Burn Treatment Centre at the University of Alberta Hospital.
4 of the beds are for critical patients.
In addition they have a General Systems Intensive Care Unit, which has 28
beds and shares a small pool of burn-trained staff.
8 are located at the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
In addition they also have General Systems Intensive Care Unit with 34 beds and shares a small pool of burned trained staff.
3 years ago there was a thesis submitted
at the University of Calgary on Burn Mass Casualty Incident Planning in Alberta a case study by Danielle Holly Fuchko highlighting how Alberta could be a leader in rolling out a burn disaster response plan and highlights as of 2023 "no specific plans for how to respond to a BMCI in Alberta. This is particularly alarming because the catchment area for these burn units includes parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. This enormous area of responsibility has the potential to quickly overwhelm Alberta’s finite burn resources and emergency management organization."
This research paper explicitly detailed why Alberta's generic "all-hazards" framework wouldn't hold up in a burn mass casualty incident. Today, as Edmonton care centers scramble to absorb the catastrophic influx from the #CFBWainwright disaster, we are witnessing the ad-hoc, real-time birth of a protocol that should have been formalized years ago. All of these medical and fire and military personnel responding to this disaster should be given highest praise when this is over for their monumental response to a disaster that did not have a protocol on how to respond.

We join with the Canadian Medical Association @CMA_Docs in their assessment of the importance of the AB referendum results. Albertans sent a clear message: they want Canada’s health care system protected and strengthened, not divided. We reiterate our request that the federal government enforce the Canada Health Act and stop Bill 11's two-tier, American-style, cash-to-jump-the-queue medical care. @MarjoriePLC @MarkJCarney @BoluOgunyemi1 @JMACL3AN @FriendsMedicare

Health care is a great source of stability for the Canadian economy. It employs 1.9 million waged or salaried employees and hundreds of thousands more self-employed practitioners, specialists, and contractors. Health care accounts for about 8% of Canada’s total value-added (GDP) and over 10% of total employment. Take a look at the recording of our webinar with PhD economist @JimboStanford on the nation-building nature of public universal health care. #cdnpoli
