#Freicoin is one of the most underrated experiments in crypto and in many ways it tackles problems Bitcoin can’t or doesn’t want to touch in my opinion. Here’s why the Freicoin design is still fascinating for me: ➕ Demurrage Freicoin applies a small negative interest to idle coins. Sounds scary at first, but it solves a real problem: money should circulate, not sit in cold wallets forever. This pushes capital into productive use instead of endless hoarding ➕ Continuous funding for miners Unlike Bitcoin, which relies on a subsidy that trends to zero, Freicoin redirects demurrage fees to miners. A long-term, self-sustaining security model... not dependent on unpredictable fee markets ➕ Stronger economic incentives Demurrage encourages real economic activity: spending, lending, building, investing. Money becomes a tool not a trophy ➕ Fairer distribution & less plutocracy Hoarding becomes costly. Influence comes from participation not passive accumulation ➕ Gesell-style monetary design Inspired by Silvio Gesell, Freicoin blends crypto with an economic philosophy focused on velocity and economic health... something Bitcoin intentionally avoids But there are also disadvantages: ➖ Psychological resistance People hate the idea of “losing X%,” even if the system benefits. The term “negative interest” triggers strong emotional reactions many instantly associate it with state intervention, central-bank policy, or even “communism.” ...this makes it harder to communicate that Freicoin’s demurrage is fully algorithmic, decentralized, and not controlled by any authority. Optics matter ➖ Bitcoin culture is anti-demurrage “Number go up” and “never sell” dominate crypto. Freicoin goes the opposite way ➖ Communication is harder Explaining demurrage is more complex than explaining a fixed cap ➖ Store-of-value trade-off If saving is your only goal, demurrage feels like a penalty My personal note: It honestly took me a long time to understand all this. What really pushed me into researching Freicoin deeply was discovering the local Chiemgauer a regional currency from 2003, originally created as a student project, using the same principle of demurrage. That was the moment I realized how powerful (and misunderstood) this mechanism really is So what do you think... do these advantages outweigh the trade-offs or is demurrage fundamentally incompatible with crypto? Curious to hear your view...

This morning we are releasing the largest proof in the history of mathematics: A formalization of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups (CFSG)! Over 43 million lines of Lean, 715 papers and books, and 100 substantive fixes to the literature, this is truly an enormous theorem. Well done team!
The largest math proof in human history is now computer-verified. Today, Axiom announces a complete Lean auto-formalization of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups, the "periodic table of symmetry." About 15,000 pages, built by over 100 mathematicians across generations.

Mathematicians: How do you dare releasing such terrible AI-written proofs before humans checked them! Also mathematicians: Release the proofs immediately!

The Wära was a German demurrage currency, introduced in 1929 during the Great Depression to help restart a struggling economy. It lost about 1% of its value each month if not used, encouraging people to spend it. It worked locally, but the German authorities banned it in 1931 because it operated outside the official currency system.

"Schuster bleib bei deinen Leisten" It reminds me to stay within my area of expertise and avoid judging matters I don't truly understand. Even after 30 years working in the fields I know best, I'm still learning every day and I'm still wrong more often than I'd like to admit.

The older I get, the more suspicious I become of the word „obvious.” Obviously, it usually means I haven't looked closely enough yet.

People in the Middle Ages built cathedrals over generations because they expected institutions to outlive them. Modern civilization struggles to plan beyond a quarterly earnings report. Maybe our biggest technological bottleneck isn't engineering... it's rebuilding institutions that can think in centuries.

AI doesn't scare me nearly as much as people who become world-class experts every time a topic starts trending.

This is how “DEMOCRACY” works in Europe: ⛔️ 314 vote AGAINST mass surveillance. ✅ 276 vote FOR it. MASS SURVEILLANCE WINS. Then the same bureaucratic hypocrites travel the world lecturing everyone about democracy and their so-called “European values.” WELCOME TO THE EUSSR.
🚨 EVERY EUROPEAN NEEDS TO KNOW THIS: The European Union is turning into an anti-democratic surveillance apparatus. In March, the European Parliament REJECTED the extension of “Chat Control.” So what did Brussels do? While everybody is distracted from the World Cup, they furtively brought it back through a rarely used procedure and are trying again. The goal is to allow private communications to be scanned under a derogation from normal ePrivacy protections. They’ll have access to your private messages and your photos. And, as always, mass surveillance is being sold to you under the banner of “safety.” The EU bureaucrats do not trust you. They urgently want the infrastructure to surveil you. And when its own Parliament votes the wrong way, the bureaucratic and anti-democratic machine simply finds another procedure and tries again. The European Union is not protecting democracy. It is becoming its enemy. And almost all CONSERVATIVES members of the parliament voted in favor of this Orwellian plan. And now imagine a combination of governmental surveillance AND Palantir. SCARY!!!! SHARE THIS. Europeans deserve to know what Brussels is doing to their privacy.

🇪🇺 Chat Control has passed 😔 They can and will now legally scan any person's messages, emails and photos you send without a warrant The way they passed this law when the majority of the European Parliament was against it will shock you: They waited until most EP members were on holiday so only a few were present and then created an "urgent" vote for it to pass it through There's nothing democratic about any of it and big powerful forces are behind this that can manipulate the EU for whatever they want Democracy in Europe died a bit today 😔
Replying to @gandalv7

Even if I don’t agree with everything in this video, it shows how a demurrage currency #Freicoin keeps money circulating instead of being hoarded. Systems like the Chiemgauer... it can actively support regional economies. youtube.com/watch?v=WzijH3lg…
