Oct 29: Google’s AI demand splits in two. CapEx = Google’s racks, Google’s power. $51B this quarter; guide held; 2027 higher. Inventory = TPU systems for customers after they sign. $13B (was $2.4B in Dec). Someone else’s building, someone else’s power. The bind is power. Google is already renting outside compute for Cloud. Watch inventory → 2027 revenue. Watch who controls the watts.

Greetings from CA: Tried to pay my new LLC's $800 tax today. FTB Web Pay says my entity ID doesn't match their records. Called FTB: "high call volume", then it hung up. No callback option. So I'm mailing a paper check in 2026. Absurd.

He named power and cooling, not chips, as the limit. The fix he described: turbine makers ship blades and vanes 12–18 months after the rest of the turbine, so SpaceX is casting those parts in its rocket-engine foundry. He's aiming for 20 GW of new power and cooling in 2027, more than the GPUs need. Wizards.

I lost the game. Was on a decade or more winning streak.

Its time for X marketplace please. Definitely need an industrial surplus section. This would end Facebook and eBay both.

Here's an algorithm, developed by AI, that turns a whole bunch of problems that used to take n^k time, for k=2,3 into problems that take n^(k-smidgen), for various values of smidgen. Now presumably a lot of work will go into increasing the size of the smidgen. Some of these problems have stood for decades. It's a pretty major advance in polynomial complexity. It sounds like somebody at Anthropic ran across it while asking Claude to solve another problem, and handed the result over to the two outside researchers who wrote the paper, and paid them to investigate it. Which sure is a weird procedure. It's a conspicuously well-written, clear, and compendious paper. I haven't read the whole thing, but I read enough to get the basic good idea. It's a Strassen-type reduction in the exponent for speeding up the multiplication of tall skinny matrices, where you only care about a few elements of the output. Then you can use that in the inner loop of a bunch of algorithms, lowering their exponent. Unfortunately the constant factors are too big to be practical, but often that gets fixed later, and it becomes of interest to an engineer like me. arxiv.org/abs/2610.06783
