New paper with @degal and @patrickshea_ps!🔓 Ethnic politics matter for sovereign credit outcomes. Using a new measure of ethnic political support, we show creditors punish right-leaning governments for relying on ethnic support, while left-leaning governments are rewarded 🧵1/
Now on-line @RIPEJournal: How does domestic politics affect sovereign credit risk? New article by Kathleen Brown, @degal and @patrickshea_ps on ethnic politics and sovereign debt: doi.org/10.1080/09692290.202…

Thrilled to see this out. This paper started as an informal side-project in my IR seminar as a way to teach the research process.
Congratulations to @ArtabeEugenia, @SamanthaChapa7, Leah Sparkman, and @patrickshea_ps. Their article "External Threats, Capacity, and Repression: How the Threat of War Affects Political Development and Physical Integrity Rights" is now online @BJPolS. doi.org/10.1017/S00071234220…

In the spirit of @matt_blackwell 's recent advice, I wanted the students to experience the research process from beginning to end. We collectively came up with an idea and saw the project through to publication.

I'm excited that my article with @Ulkar_Imamverdi is out in the newest issue of JCR. Main takeaway: Women leaders do not spend more (or less) on the military than men. 1/ journals.sagepub.com/doi/ful…

One limitation of our study is that we cannot differentiate between the possibility that men and women have similar preferences on military spending from the possibility that women leaders adopt more hawkish policies to overcome gender stereotypes. 7/

But we think we offer an empirical framework for others to explore these issues further. A pre-print can be found here: dropbox.com/s/u5hhyegg3xnpxm… n/
We think this article should be of interest to many scholars given how important property rights, capacity, and conflict are to many research agendas.

Finally, it is always good to see another DiGiuseppe and Shea paper in print. I really enjoyed working on this paper with Matt.
