Steve Hilton Paints a Stark Choice: Monument to Failure or a California That Works Two years into a Steve Hilton governorship, the state’s long-delayed high-speed rail project is gone. In its place stands what Hilton calls the National Monument of Government Failures. “Visitors come from around the world to see the most expensive piece of concrete in human history,” he says in a new campaign video. The unfinished tracks and concrete slabs become a permanent reminder of what happens when billions are spent with little to show for it. The same video shows a different Los Angeles. Skid Row has turned into “a world-class destination, famous for its cherry blossoms and fine dining.” On Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, “shops are thriving and restaurants are full of people.” With gas at three dollars a gallon, “families are taking road trips again, and 2026 feels like a distant memory.” Hilton then flips the script. Under a Javier Becerra administration, the picture reverses. Gas hits an all-time high of eight dollars a gallon. “Families can’t afford to drive. The only traffic left is leaving California.” The Third Street Promenade becomes a ghost town after Becerra “gave Santa Monica the kiss of death.” On Skid Row, “typhoid and rat infestations have left emergency crews struggling to contain the disaster.” Meanwhile, Becerra “has raised taxes to pour another two hundred billion dollars into the railroad to nowhere.” The contrast is deliberate and blunt. One path treats the high-speed rail project as a finished failure and moves on. The other keeps writing checks for more of the same. Hilton closes by telling voters that California’s future is still being written. “Vote for Steve Hilton. Just try it.”
