Last month I had the opportunity to present a new paper at the PEPG conference "School Choice: Tradeoffs and Evidence-Based Policy Making" — analyzing more than a decade of public opinion data on ESAs, school vouchers, and charter schools. I also focus on subgroup trends and question framing/wording effects in our monthly and annual national surveys. Thanks to @Paul_E_Peterson, @MichaelTHartney, and the @edchoice team for their support throughout. @EducationNext @TaubmanCenter It was great learning from a lot of the other presenters and speakers. I definitely enjoyed it.

In our latest @edchoice @MorningConsult survey of K-12 teachers (9/25-10/7), these numbers jumped out to me in light of all the current attention - at least in our neck of the woods - on the new federal education tax credit. > Awareness is understandably low. Less than one-fourth of teachers (23%) said they had heard "a great deal" or "a lot" about the new federal tax credit, while 30% had heard nothing at all. > Support for states opting in is substantial. After receiving a brief description of the tax credit: 70% supported their state participating, including 67% of NEA members and 71% of AFT members. The contrast between union member responses and union leadership’s public positions is worth watching.

Incredible scoop by my @WSJ colleagues: Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of Starlink relied on by Ukraine, a decision that sparked panic in Kyiv and confusion inside the Trump administration. wsj.com/world/ukraine-starli…

When did you think about your child's enrollment for the next school year? According to our September public opinion tracker, most parents start deciding between May and August. Although, 20% of private school parents start making their decision as early as January. edchoice.org/wp-content/uplo…

Once again: cost of living is issue 1a and corruption is issue 1b in this midterm.
CNN: GOP operatives conducting a focus group in a traditionally red Midwestern state this month were taken aback by what they heard from their own party’s voters. Asked what they blamed for rising gas prices, those voters pointed to “corrupt politicians” and “billionaires” — a response that surprised some longtime strategists who’ve never seen government corruption emerge as a top issue for so many Republican voters in congressional races. cnn.com/2026/10/18/politics/…
