There is a book titled When Helping Hurts. Welfare is an example of that: "The Aid to Families with Dependent Children program paid higher benefits when no father lived in the household, which subsidized his departure. Between 1965 and 1980, out-of-wedlock births among black Americans climbed from 25 percent to 56 percent." Today: Nearly 70% of Black children in the United States are born to unmarried parents.
Lyndon Johnson declared war on poverty in January 1964, and poverty promptly won. The Office of Economic Opportunity launched that same year, spending $800 million in its first year alone. By 1980, the federal government had spent over $3 trillion (in today's dollars) across the constellation of Great Society programs: Medicaid, food stamps, housing subsidies, community action agencies, the whole apparatus. The poverty rate in 1964 sat at 19 percent. By 1973, it had fallen to 11 percent. Impressive, until you notice it was already falling at precisely that rate throughout the 1950s, before Johnson spent a single dollar. The market was already doing the job. What Johnson created was a dependency infrastructure. The Aid to Families with Dependent Children program paid higher benefits when no father lived in the household, which subsidized his departure. Between 1965 and 1980, out-of-wedlock births among black Americans climbed from 25 percent to 56 percent. Charles Murray documented the numbers exhaustively in "Losing Ground" (1984), and the left never refuted the math; instead, they attacked Murray personally. Bureaucracies administer poverty rather than eliminate it. Every dollar Washington sends to a poor family in Chicago passes through a federal agency, a state agency, a county office, and a caseworker's desk first. The machinery consumes a stunning share before anything reaches you. Capital formation, voluntary exchange, and sound money pulled more people out of destitution in the 19th century than every federal program combined has since Johnson's cameras rolled in the Rose Garden.

Schreiner's NAC commentary on 1 Peter (and 2 Pt, Jude) is very, very good. The perfect level of exegetical and practical insight for the preaching pastor.

These pages take a long time because I'm doing them the hard, slow way, watercolor & ink. For heaven's sake if this project interests you —follow me. I'm doing the math and I need the first story to do extremely well if I'm going to make the money work. I want passion to win.
The first 4 pages sans text for PetraCor, my Anglo-Saxon graphic novel. Each chapter is a self-contained episode. A early-medieval Twilight Zone structure with stories inspired by Dante, English and Celtic fable, and the real history of 8th century England. I can't wait to start drawing creatures. The truly strange stuff. That's certainly a highlight. But the heart of the story is two men --one a Saxon thegn whose life of bloody conflict has left him searching for meaning, and the other a young Lombardian exile whose aristocratic family was unseated by Charlemagne's conquests in Italy. With all lost, he lives in the present. Thrown together, they wander the length of Albion on a path to the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, navigating the layers of cultures that centuries of conquest had brought to the isle. Saints, monsters, druids, wicked gods and men, nature and the ruins it has reclaimed pepper the road between Wintanceastre and Lindisfarne in Anno Domini 793.

Something deeply wrong with Talarico
James talarico headlined a Pride event alongside an 11-year-old child drag queen named "Kween Kee Kee." One attendee posted video of the young boy doing the splits. Another performance was by an adult man who goes by the raunchy name "Sedonya Face." The event touted more than 30 kids in attendance. #TXsen

‼️ MAJOR BREAKING: The Liberal government REFUSES to accept they were wrong. They invoked the Emergencies Act against Canadians in 2022. A court ruled it illegal. The appeal court agreed. Two losses. Now they're spending your money asking the Supreme Court for a third try. THE APPEAL WAS JUST APPROVED. Two courts said they broke the law & trampled Charter rights. Instead of accepting it, they bill you to keep fighting.

Canadian taxpayers are now paying $1.4M for gender surgery research, with the conclusion written in advance. Before collecting a single result, the researchers wrote in their federal grant summary: "They expect that top surgery will reduce the body's stress burden." And the evidence "could strengthen support for access to gender-affirming care." The study is "Gender-Affirming Chest Surgery and Allostatic Load in Transgender Men and Non-Binary Individuals." It studies double mastectomies for gender on healthy women and "allostatic load," the wear and tear long-term stress puts on the body, using blood tests and smartphone surveys before and after surgery. Its summary also states, as settled, that "we know that top surgery improves mental health." The study is framed as the next step for something the researchers already believe works, not as an open question. In September 2026, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the federal agency that funds health research, approved two four-year grants for gender surgery research in Toronto. Together they total $1,399,207. Both came from CIHR's "Advancing 2S/LGBTQI+ Health Through Research" program, which funded 22 teams this year. Grant 1: $700,000 to the University of Toronto •The double mastectomies for gender study above. •Principal investigators: six, led by Massieh Moayedi. Women's College Hospital surgeon Dr. Kathleen Armstrong is one of them. Grant 2: $699,207 to Women's College Hospital •Title: "Improving Gender-Affirming Surgical Care Through Digital Patient-Reported Outcomes: Implementing the GENDER-Q at Women's College Hospital." •Principal investigator: Dr. Armstrong. •What it does: patients seeking gender surgery fill out a questionnaire, the GENDER-Q, before their appointment, and the answers go into the hospital's electronic records. What the surgeon said In an Oct. 21 article in the trade publication Canadian Healthcare Technology, Dr. Armstrong called the funding: > "an important commitment by the Canadian government to the health and rights of transgender people and the broader 2SLGBTQI+ community, at a time when we have seen other countries move away from these commitments." She added that it will help "advocate for equitable access." billboardchris.com/news/otta…

Standard Canadian government agency in October. When people say this country is captured, they mean it.
This is literally the logo for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation right now (it's October). I hope you like renting a bachelor apartment because they are never, ever bringing down housing prices.

The Liberal Foreign Minister has some exciting news! This Liberal government is spending $7.8 million taxpayer money on an affordable housing project. Unfortunately for Canadians struggling to afford a home in this Liberal housing crisis, the project is in....the Dominican Republic. The Carney Liberals always find money to send overseas instead of finding savings for Canadians here at home.

In fact, Brian Houston issued a public letter apologizing for what went down at Lentz' church, saying Lentz was a "narcissist," that there was a "culture of dysfunction" and that "the church failed in significant ways to reflect the culture they wished to impart." This includes widespread and pervasive sexual promiscuity and sexual contact between certain church staff members and interns and parishioners. Hillsong staffers were effectively using the church like a seedy dating service, ‘sleeping around’ with volunteers and asking them to send nude pictures. Houston ultimately acknowledged that the allegations of rampant sexual impropriety were "mostly true" and said in a statement: "We know that Hillsong East Coast has failed to be the kind of church it should be. On behalf of the Global Board and as Global Senior Pastor, I accept responsibility for these failings and apologize unreservedly."

Conservatives who attend church weekly are the least likely to have ever been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Liberals who have low attendance are the most likely to have a diagnosis. A confounding variable is that liberals tend to seek out mental health services more than conservatives, however.

Language warning but Benz digs deep.
Bono's first foray into "philanthropy," the Live Aid music concerts of the 1980s, raised $100 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. BBC later reported that just $5 million of it went to food -- $95 million of it went to buy guns and organize CIA-backed warlords.

Wow!! Praise the Lord!!! Thank you to all 10,000 of you who signed up for my new app, ana kate, yesterday. It’s so clear that Christian women want - and need - a place to call home when it comes to tracking periods and pregnancy. I created ana kate because, as a Christian woman, I was tired of constantly having to navigate unbiblical ideas, unscientific statements, and illicit images when I was just trying to track my cycle or get pregnancy insights. I wanted a place that would encourage and educate me in truth. Whether you’re just tracking your period, trying to conceive, pregnant, or postpartum, ana kate is the Biblically rooted, scientifically grounded alternative to the apps that push abortion, sexual degeneracy and gender confusion. At AK, we know what a woman is, honor marriage, and value every life. Link for iOS below!

Does poverty create crime? The numbers say No: "During the recession,US unemployment doubled from 5% to nearly 10%. If poverty creates crime, crime should have exploded. Instead it fell. Year after year. Robbery, the most "economic" crime of all, dropped 10% in 2010 alone. Criminologists literally said they were stumped."
"You reduce crime by eliminating poverty." This is one of the greatest intellectual confusions of our century. It sounds compassionate. It feels obvious. And the moment you actually test it, it falls apart. Let's look at the data. First, the correlation is real. Nobody serious denies that poorer areas have more crime. In Sweden, kids from the poorest 20% of families are about 7 times more likely to be convicted of a violent crime than kids from the richest 20%. But correlation is not causation. So Swedish researchers did something brilliant: they compared siblings. Same parents, same home, same upbringing, but different family income at different points in their childhood, because parents' income moves over time. Result, on more than 500,000 children (Sariaslan et al., British Journal of Psychiatry, 2014): once you account for what's shared inside the family, the effect of income on violent crime goes from 7x to nothing. The hazard ratio drops to 0.95. No effect. Finland ran the same test on 650,000 people. Same result: the income-crime link disappears when you compare siblings. What predicts crime isn't the bank balance. It's what travels inside families. Second test: what happens when poverty spikes for everyone at once? 2008. US unemployment doubled from 5% to nearly 10%. 15% of Americans officially poor. If poverty creates crime, crime should have exploded. Instead it fell. Year after year. Robbery, the most "economic" crime of all, dropped 10% in 2010 alone. Criminologists literally said they were stumped. Same story in the Great Depression: 25% unemployment, and crime went down in many cities. Third test: take families out of poverty and see. The US government ran a randomized lottery called Moving to Opportunity. Thousands of families in public housing got vouchers to move to low-poverty neighborhoods. For boys, violent arrests dropped at first, property crime arrests went up, and over time the effects faded. New zip code. Same behavior. Fourth: the claim that police don't matter. This one is just false. Chalfin et al. (American Economic Review: Insights, 2022): each additional police officer prevents about 0.1 homicides. And per capita, the lives saved are twice as many among Black victims as among white victims. The people who suffer most from "police don't matter" are the poorest neighborhoods. So what does predict crime? The Dunedin study followed 1,000 children from birth to age 32. Self-control measured between ages 3 and 11 predicted adult criminal convictions, even after controlling for social class and IQ (Moffitt et al., PNAS, 2011). Cognitive ability matters too: across 700,000 Swedish men, lower cognitive scores at 18 track with violent convictions, and the link barely moves when you control for childhood socioeconomic status (Frisell et al., 2012). And here's the part nobody quotes: in Dunedin, kids whose self-control improved over time did better than predicted. Behavior can change. Which means responsibility is real. Why does this matter? Because "poverty creates crime" isn't just wrong. It's toxic. It turns criminals into victims. The man who robbed you becomes a symptom of "the system," and you, the real victim, become a footnote in someone else's narrative. It merges two completely different things. "You're poor, we'll help you" is one policy. "You're poor and you committed a crime, so we'll excuse you" is another. Fusing them insults the millions of poor people who work, raise their kids, and never hurt anyone. The vast majority of poor people are not criminals. That alone kills the theory. It removes responsibility. Build a political system on "your circumstances made you do it" and you destroy the one thing that actually changes behavior: the certainty that you own your choices. Every excuse the state manufactures is an incentive. And it feeds the state forever. If every crime is a social failure, every crime justifies a new program, a new budget, a new agency. Crime becomes the business model of bureaucracy. The alternative is simple and old. A lighter state that protects instead of explains. The same rules for everyone, from the projects or from a gated community. Certain, swift punishment for anyone who commits a crime. And never, ever telling someone their crime was written in their social condition. Treating someone as responsible is respecting them. Excusing someone because they're poor is the most condescending thing you can do to them.

My understanding of horror is that it is defined as the monster winning and not by evil or horrific elements. If it is defined this way, it is not for Christians for it lacks redemption.
