Same with me at Linear. I didn’t bring it up and I still have no idea if Karri knows he interviewed me twice.
Back in 2021 I interviewed at Vercel and I failed badly. I couldn’t implement a debounce function and was stuck for like 30 minutes. It was pretty embarrassing. 10 months later (2022) I interviewed again and got the job. Don’t give up!

I liked these ads already just as pure compositions. I like them even more having read the thinking / seen the process behind them. Great work.
we used Parallel to build Parallel’s first brand campaign. here's a look at the research, connections, and creative decisions behind the artwork.

In a past life I used to design websites for the film industry and remember being at a party in LA full of industry people. I was talking to someone who, mid conversation, just walked away. They had asked what I did and realised I had no power and was therefore of no use to them.
people need to status max so much more high status people saying "chasing status is bad" is such an effective way of keeping everyone below them literally the only reason why you care about a person you have not met is because they've done something publicly approved rant:

I still think about it every now and again. Mostly with pity because what a horrible way to live your life.

Sweeney Todd. I produced this last night. I’m thinking of doing YouTube films, looking at iconic figures. Truth and fiction.

Nice bit of copywriting. Completely missed by the 100s of dorks in the replies asking if it flies.

We're going to look back at one-size-fits-all software the way we look at the three-channel TV era

Slop isn’t a means of production, a medium, a visual treatment, an eyebrow, or a particular typeface. It’s a lack of care and effort.
someone told me using Inter font feels like ai slop, cus it's the most used font which ai has adopted

First speakers announced for Orbit (more to come). And you can now request a ticket. Nice.
Ticket requests for Orbit (by Linear) are now open. Join us in San Francisco on Dec 9 for an exploration of the future of product development: If we can produce more software than ever, what does it take to make it good? orbit.linear.app

Agree with this. Humans recognise effort, whether that is in learning a craft, the production process, material sourcing. The less human effort, the less perceived value. Hand made became a luxury signifier in the machine age, in part, because mass production became distasteful.
Counter argument: Not only is taste subjective, it's a moving target. As soon as [tasteful thing] becomes easily replicable, it stops being tasteful. Taste is a status game with a strong defensibility mechanism. That's why the term is so fuzzy and ill-defined. Vagueness is the whole point. It's meant to be hard to copy.

We will (and are already seeing) something similar with AI. Apple ads now come with proof of human labour. Not that AI itself is inherently distasteful, some great work is and has been produced with it. But it’s the human labour we still recognise.

Nobody would have liked the Quartr posters if they were simply button presses. And when that same output becomes possible with a button press, it will have lost most of its value.
