A little reminder that I have produced a beautiful hardback book of my photographs and words, 152 pages of Peak District inspiration, presented seasonally. It makes a perfect present or a treat to curl up with on dark evenings. 🥰

There's a certain satisfaction that comes from a weary feeling in your legs as you wend your way along the country lanes after a long day, with the sun setting over the hills ahead and lighting up the leaves. In the air I could smell woodsmoke and autumn, the only sounds the sheep and birds and my own footsteps, heavy with a quiet tiredness, knowing I'd earned a fire, a good book and a lot of cheese.

I’m always so happy to hear from happy customers. 🥰

@peaklass1 Just took delivery of your book. So delighted, such a talent. And beautifully presented 👏
If you're feeling the worries and noise of the world at the moment, I'm sending you this beautiful walk among the chestnut trees, the pale sun flickering through the leaves and falling in pools of light on the ground. The river is sparkling at the end of the lane, and all around the birds are singing out into the morning as the mist clears. I hope it brings a little Peak District calm to your day.

It's such a special moment when the light first hits. Standing in the early pre-dawn silence, you watch the sky get fractionally paler and paler, until the sun suddenly breaks cover over the hills with a sharp flash and runs down the slopes into the valley, bringing brightness to the trees and the river and the path ahead. It never gets old.

This quiet lane is one of my favourites. It's where I retreat to when I need a peaceful hour to walk my dog, to crunch through the leaves, to listen to nothing more than birdsong and the deer in the undergrowth. It's the lane where I always hear my first cuckoos in spring, see the foxgloves shine in summer, watch the leaves tip over from green to gold in autumn, and where the silence piles up on top of the deep snow in winter. I hope you can all find a lane like this somewhere, wherever you are in the world, and I hope it always brings you a little calm.

These are the in-between days, the cusp of seasons. Autumn is sidling through the branches and hedgerows, daily brushing more of her bronze and gold into the green. Every falling leaf, every misty morning, ushers summer a little further along the lane.

The villages of the #peakdistrict always stop me in my tracks when I see them dreaming on quiet mornings. All was peaceful on the lanes as I watched this scene, the early sun brushing the trees, turning them to gold here and there, and the mist still lazily drifting across the fields. Even the old gate looked like it needed to stretch and wake up.
A little reminder that in December you will be able to find me at Haddon Hall’s beautiful Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market!
This wonderful event was hailed in the national press last year as being one of the Top 10 Christmas Markets in the UK. It features hundreds of stalls from very high quality artists, producers, craftspeople and makers, and it’s set in the decorated rooms, courtyards and grounds of this historic medieval hall. It’s guaranteed to make even the biggest humbug feel festive!
This year Mercatum is on for 6 weeks from Wednesday to Sunday each week. Please come and find me in the Long Gallery for the final 3 weeks in December - but the event starts on 11 November. Full details below…
Important note! This year you must pre-book your tickets, you can’t just turn up and buy them on the day. And some weekends are already almost sold out, so please don’t delay. 😬

I can’t wait to see some of you there! 👋🏼
I know you can't feel and hear the happiness that accompanied this shot, or see the huge grin on my face as I took it, but I hope you can picture it!
Padley Gorge is one of my favourite Peak District locations, in every season, weather and mood.
If you're really lucky there, you'll get some morning mist weaving around the trees.
If you're even luckier, the sun will start to break through and light up the shadows.
If you're incredibly lucky, you'll see cows there, to add a bit of interest and scale.
And if you're me, last week, grinning my biggest ever grins, a particularly photogenic chap will stand patiently in the most perfect frame of twisted trees, posing beautifully and giving you his best side. I felt as if all my birthdays had come at once.
As usual, I whispered 'thank you' and bounced away with a massive spring in my step. I hope he makes you smile and starts your week off well.

"Don't you imagine the leaves dream now how comfortable it will be to touch the earth instead of the nothingness of the air and the endless freshets of wind?" - Mary Oliver
And just like that, we tumble headlong into October. This month brings such a quiet perfection of colour to the Peak District countryside, the leaves softening with every shade of yellow and orange and gold, yet still with those last greens bravely shining on. I hope it's a wonderful time for us all.
This scene in Beresford Dale is the photograph that will bring a little beauty to your wall all month if you managed to snap up a copy of my 2026 Peak District Calendar. This is the time of year when the Peak District gifts us the most perfect mornings - the sun rising on green hills and ribbons of mist in the valleys, clearing slowly as the day dawns, revealing little scenes as it retreats. I stood for a long time watching the colours glow in the early light as the villages woke up.

If the noise and fear in your timeline is getting too much, spend a moment in my photograph and breathe in, let your shoulders drop. The early autumn mist in Padley Gorge on Tuesday cast its spell on me, and I hope it brings you a little calm too.

I know it’s only September - but I’m already getting ready for Haddon Hall’s magical Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market!
This is honestly the BEST Christmas event anywhere, full of twinkly lights, festive decorations, live music and beautiful stalls, all set within the rooms, gardens and grounds of this medieval hall. Each stall is carefully curated to feature only the finest quality artists, makers and craftspeople. (You won’t find any tat sourced from China here!)

September is a month of mists and soft light, when the countryside feels as if it's breathing and slowing again after the rush and flutter of summer. It's always a pleasure to walk along the lanes as the dawn shines through the trees on quiet mornings.

Today is my birthday, so I hope you won't mind that I'm sharing one of my own favourite photographs, despite the fact that it's an oldie AND it's slightly out of season AND it's a sheep appearing on a Wednesday. What am I even thinking?! But if I can't indulge myself on my birthday, well, when can I?! 🤭
A few years ago, on the side of Higger Tor on a sunny evening, I was focusing my attention on the beautiful view in the distance, when this little face poked around the rocks and stared at me with such a quizzical expression. She made me laugh out loud, which made her stare even more. She has since appeared on my business cards, thank you cards, tea towels, notepad covers, and my advertising banner - she really deserves royalties! I hope she brings a smile to your face today. 🙂
