A South Suffolk Hunt Saboteur has been found not guilty despite former Essex & Suffolk huntsman John Henty's best efforts. Henty pursued a prosecution alleging abusive and threatening behaviour under Section 5 of the Public Order Act. The case followed an incident on a quiet country lane in which Henty pursued the hunt saboteurs' vehicle, blocked it in, approached it and attempted to provoke a reaction. However, upon reflection the case raises serious questions as to why it was ever brought to court in the first place, when both the defence and the prosecution sought to discontinue the case on more than once occasion. The judge concluded that Henty had continued the interaction with the sab of his own accord and had got out of his vehicle voluntarily, amongst other things. A considerable amount of time, money and public resources have been spent pursuing this matter, leaving us asking why was it allowed to get this far in the first place? Since the shocking incident on the 12th of October, whereby a stag being hunted by the Quantock Staghounds collided with a car on the A39, the hunt has continued to use this road as their own personal playground. The stag was flipped over the top of the car, and its leg smashed a rear window. The driver and her small child were not hurt but this could have been fatal to those on the road at this time. Read more about the incident at 👉huntsabs.org.uk/horror-as-fl… Since then, the Quantock Staghounds have continued to use this road to hunt stags, which they do by exploiting loopholes in the law. Illegal quads are filmed speeding up and down the road, those on foot are running in front of cars and hounds are spilling out onto the road causing traffic to brake. It is only a matter of time until a member of the public is seriously hurt due to the actions of the Quantock Staghounds. More must be done by police to protect the public, and the government must move quickly to ensure there is a full ban on hunting with hounds.
