HUGE milestone for our @pepperdine University Master of Middle East Policy Studies program: MMEPS is the only Middle East studies program approved by the Department of State for the reimagined Pickering, Rangel & Payne Fellowships, America's flagship pathways into the U.S. Foreign Service.
For the first time, State has published a short list of approved programs, all in Washington, chosen for their alignment with American foreign policy & the needs of the Foreign Service.
For a program just two years old, this is a serious affirmation of what our @PepperdineSPP team has built in Washington, DC with our @WashInstitute partners.
A true honor, in this amazing country, for the Department of State to trust Pepperdine with a part in preparing "America's Next Great Diplomats."
For potential students: you apply to the State Department fellowship & to the Pepperdine degree program at the same time.
MMEPS applications for Fall 2027 are already open, so start there TODAY:

The Department of State fellowship application opens in December & closes in January, it is highly competitive. More info, here: careers.state.gov/americas-n…
The selected Department of State fellows will receive tuition plus a $33,000 stipend, two summer internships & a path into the Foreign Service. You must be a U.S. citizen with a 3.2 GPA & pass the Foreign Service Officer Test first (so take it literally at the next opportunity!).

Ranked #12 in the nation for study abroad by @usnews, Pepperdine’s international campuses take students far beyond the tourist trail. 🌏
Our newest, in Kyoto, was just featured in @japantimes: tutoring at local schools, mingling with Japanese students, and becoming regulars at neighborhood ramen shops 🍜

University officials continue to monitor the Bryson Fire near Encinal Canyon. Evacuation orders remained in effect throughout the night. The fire does not currently pose a threat to Pepperdine’s Malibu campus and all operations, including classes, are normal at all Pepperdine University Southern California campuses.
Road closures have been established around the perimeter of the fire and commuters are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
Pepperdine community members are encouraged to review the University’s wildfire preparedness plans which are reviewed annually by the LA County Fire Department. This includes the practice of sheltering in place on the Malibu campus when a wildfire threatens the campus. If the University’s zone is placed on an evacuation order status, the University would initiate its shelter-in-place protocol.
We are monitoring the Bryson Fire near Encinal Canyon, which is located approximately eight miles northwest of the Malibu campus. Winds are blowing southwest and away from the Malibu campus. The fire does not currently pose a threat to Pepperdine’s Malibu campus. Considerable firefighting resources have been assigned to address this incident. Firefighting aircraft and smoke may be visible from campus.
Community members whose homes are threatened by the fire, evacuation warnings, or any road closures should follow the directions of their local governmental agencies and discuss the situation with their supervisors or professors for accommodations as needed.
Record-breaking #PepperdineGives, capped by a $1M gift for a new Seaver College student scholarship. Thank you, Waves! 🌊
