If you are here (#Twitter) from the origin, you can recognize that this space is not anymore what it was, and this is just thanks to the weird @elonmusk Somewhere, sometimes, someone will describe this as the worst case of social platforms management

New working paper: Can AI forecast treatment effects in economics from pre-registration documents? Answer: Yes. 1/

A CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) is a publicly disclosed security flaw. They increased following a slight upward slope all the way to early 2024, when there was a sudden small increase... then starting in 2026, we went full exponential. In most instances, the vulnerabilities were pre-existing, so much of the increase is just our better ability to find the faults. This is of historical importance. We have never witnessed anything of the sort.

Steve Jobs died of cancer in 2011. His son Reed is now running a VC firm with one goal: to make cancer non-lethal in his lifetime. It's called Yosemite, and it's not a normal fund: • Oncology only, which is ~40% of biotech • Grants university labs no-strings-attached money to de-risk early ideas • Builds about a third of its companies itself, with academics at places like Yale, Berkeley and Stanford • Fund 1 backed 20 companies. Fund 2 is oversubscribed, above its $350M target, with AbbVie and Amgen as partners Asked what his father would tell him today: "Stay on the path… This is a long-term play that is going to take my whole life." And the hardest part, in his words: "I'm an impatient guy… But the discipline is knowing that that is what this really takes." Patience isn't a personality trait. It's a decision you keep making.

Hard to overstate how big this is. tl;dr - CVE-2026-98432: a remote use-after-free in the Linux IPv4 TCP handshake (kernels 4.4+). Any unpatched server that accepts IPv4 TCP on an MPTCP listener can be taken over as root, with no credentials. Go servers built with Go 1.24+ use MPTCP listeners by default. Ubuntu and RHEL have no fixed kernel yet. Check with ss -Mlnp. Quick fix for Go: GODEBUG=multipathtcp=0.

Weekend hack: HackerTube. I was annoyed with YouTube's recommendations so I had Claude filter down 43M comments over 20 years of HN to 6,454 videos that keep being recommended. *Significantly* better viewing experience, ~2 hours with Opus 5.5: hackertube.org/ - Excellent recs without any logins (state is kept in local browser session) - Thumbnail is a representative frame from middle of the video instead of the super duper A/B test hyper-optimized user uploads - Underlying data from the comment analysis as one zip file, point your Claude at it and ask for your own version - HackerTube Longs ✊ A bit more on the process: I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac), Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default. I only talk to Claude and have it do everything, the only "manual work" I helped with in tandem was in the browser (reminiscent of MenuGen): 1) I had to create some kind of API key from Google Cloud UI to query YouTube for video metadata, 2) I booted up a VPS box for serving and 3) I bought the domain name. Once the box was up I gave Claude the IP and told it update, secure, harden, deploy and optimize the code, and it did the whole thing. Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast. What else are we not thinking of.

The Nobel Prize before recent globalization has largely been a Western thing, coming from a certain culture and a certain system. That retard (literally) RF Kennedy should try to do the same with the Chinese & other Asian countries. Retard.
US Secretary of Health Robert F Kennedy Jr. has said that Arabs don’t produce science or literature, or win Nobel prizes. RFK Jr.’s remarks, which were made during a Republican rally, have been widely condemned as factually incorrect and racially biased.

Apple's Neural Engine has no public docs and no Linux driver from Apple. So I wrote my own. Today I found it had been running in first gear. One setting, clock level 1 to level 5, and speech encoding on my M1 Max is 31% faster. Same output, bit for bit.

This might be a hot take, but the real AI divide will not be rich versus poor or young versus old. It will be curious versus afraid. The tools are nearly free and getting better every month. The only thing standing between most people and that leverage is a decision.
