Another day out at Spurn, Kilnsea & Easington - this time with @SeanOHa19117792. What at day! Started off with Siberian Stonechat (p) and Richard's Pipit, then Eastern Bonelli's (p), Hume's (p) and Pallas's (p) Warblers and finished with a Little Bunting in the gathering gloom.
Pallid Harrier at Mawdesley Moss, Lancashire, this evening. Had to wait an hour or so before it popped up and flew within 50 yards of me. The failing light and setting sun was a challenge!
Spent most of the day with @SeanOHa19117792, @SchofieldColin & @BithellRob in the vicinity of Llyn Brenig on an unsuccessful Grey Shrike hunt. Saw this nice Brambling during a coffee break at the visitor centre.
My first evening visit to the Dee Marshes today... at least two Short-Eared Owls, at least one Barn Owl, one ring-tail Hen Harrier and multiple Marsh Harriers. Not bad.
Had a pleasant wander round @RSPB_BurtonMere with my wife today. I wasn't expecting much, but was pleased to see Cattle and Great-White Egrets and a brief fly-by from a Short-Eared Owl. With @SchofieldColin.
Another fabulous day at Spurn (before the 6 hour drag back to Wirral!). Second looks at Snow Bunting, Bluethroat (p), Isabeline Wheatear(p) and Black Redstart (p) plus Dusky Warbler (p) (in the hand), Black Kite, Tundra Bean Geese and White-Fronted Geese. @spurnbirdobs
Crazy day at Spurn/Kilnsea today. Long-Tailed Skua, Snow Bunting (p), Black Redstart, Woodcock, Barred Warbler(p), Bluethroat (p) and Isabeline Wheatear (p) (self-found), were the highlights for me. Four year ticks take me to 256 with two months to go! @spurnbirdobs
USA day 10. Days 8 & 9 reserved for the family, so nothing to report bird-wise, however I did (almost literally) run into these scary looking Joro Spiders whilst out for a walk. Last day today - off home soon - but just enough time this morning to snap this Spotted Sandpiper.
USA day 7. Adult Bald Eagle, Osprey with fish, Hooded Warbler (new for the trip) and showy female type American Redstart the photographic highlights.
USA day 6. No life ticks today… and I spent half my day with exactly the wrong ISO setting for photographing birds in dense foliage! Once sorted, I caught up with this fantastic male Redstart, a juv Bald Eagle, Wood Peewee & White-Breasted Nuthatch.
USA day 5. McIntosh State Park again today - no real need to go anywhere else! Two more warblers life ticks in the form of Black-Throated Green and Cape May, amongst the many other species already identified. Other photo highlights: Red-Tailed Hawk and Red-Headed Woodpecker.
USA day 4. Back at McIntosh State Park for the day. So many migrant passerines around, including this superb male American Redstart, Black & White Warbler and Scarlet Tanager. Also a few waders on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, including this Spotted Sandpiper.
USA day 3. A warblertastic day at McIntosh State Park in West Georgia. I was hoping for at least one life tick, but was amazed and delighted to come away with four! American Redstart, Blackburnian Warbler, Chestnut-Sided Warbler and Magnolia Warbler. More in part 2...
USA day 2. A stunning not-so-shy male Rose-breasted Grosbeak and another life tick in the form of a Broad-Winged Hawk - one of several seen today on their southward migration. Also a nice White-Eyed Vireo.
USA Day 1. Shy Rose-Breasted Grosbeak, Tennessee Warbler life tick, Yellow-Billed Cuckoo & Grey Catbird. Not a bad start!
Grey Phalarope at Worthington Lakes, Standish, this afternoon with @SchofieldColin
