Thank you, CIA, for saving Australia 🙏
Source: One of the most insane pages to still be live on Wikipedia, calling the 2010 Australian Labor leadership spill "US-involved Regime Change", among a whole suite of other crazy claims.

Argentinian nationalists: It’s over 😔 We will never achieve Brazilification

What a weird book, it’s about the last empress of Austria & a completely unrelated Strauss opera — which wasn’t inspired by her life, doesn’t even vaguely parallel it, she never commented on or saw it, nothing?? Is it a leg pull, a homage to Nabokov’s ‘Pale Fire’?

It’s like two different books inexplicably spliced into one. Strauss & Hofmannsthal writing their opera, while a woman happens to be living in the same city, neither giving the other a single thought? When did Stanford University Press start publishing Charles Kinbote?

The Muslim ummah doesn’t care about the Uyghurs. I mean obviously their governments would prioritize good relations with China even if the Arab (Pakistani/Indonesian/Bangladeshi) street was boiling with rage but there is no popular rage

The men of Khartoum will riot because Zionist wizards are disapparating their penises but dgaf what the atheist communists do to their coreligionists in Xinjiang The Israelis should just mass convert to Islam — Muslims would instantly forget all about the Palestinians

Endangered megafauna now have the sacred inviolability that theologians once gave to kings
I've seen many people saying the tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park should have been shot when the man entered its enclosure. I couldn't disagree more. From the footage I've seen, it looks extremely difficult to even get into that enclosure in the first place. And from what I've heard, the staff did an incredible job reacting as quickly as they did, while showing restraint and avoiding killing an innocent tiger. These are apex predators. They are extremely dangerous animals that will naturally attack humans when confronted in their territory. Hopefully this magnificent animal isn't put down in the aftermath of this tragedy. The tiger did nothing wrong.

Just read up on whole issue about Nobel winner Navi Pillay providing names of Uyghur dissidents to China & she did it! Knowingly! Only UN defence is it was ‘standard bureaucratic protocol’ to inform China of attendees of human rights events & frankly that’s an absurd defence.

You won’t believe what marriages the dictator of a certain neighbouring country mandated 🏳️‍🌈
In 1814, Rodriguez de Francia, the so called "Supreme Dictator of Paraguay", outlawed marriage between whites and made interracial relations de facto mandatory. Thanks in part to this, modern day Paraguay is 95% mestizo (mixed european and native ancestry).

Chess tablebases (basically computer oracles for chess positions with very few pieces left on the board) were developed in the 1980s. A parallel to generative AI today: many reacted with horror on aesthetic grounds, competitive pressure meant everyone adopted them as a study tool

Distinguished Professor Peter Schwerdtfeger is under investigation by Massey University over five articles he co-wrote in 2023 on university funding, decolonisation, and the place of mātauranga Māori in universities. After a member of the public complained, Massey set up a panel and asked it to consider whether his articles "reflect the values of Massey University." Academic freedom exists so academics can put forward unorthodox ideas and challenge the dogma of the day. Measuring a professor's writing against the university's own values gets it exactly backwards. We've written to Massey asking why this complaint was ever sent to a panel. 🔗 Read our letter: fsu.nz/publications/letter-t…

Although Princeton University Press published Clark’s earlier books he is now now sufficiently cancelled that they turned down his third and he’s decided to just put the pdf online. Note one recent title that *did* meet PUP reviewers’ exacting standards…
Gregory Clark's new book (as a pdf) "To Have and Have Not: The Determinants of Social Status in England, 1600-2026" Plus several comments and a reply.
