Most systems do not fail because code is hard. They fail because the next change has no clear owner. I build product software around the work that keeps it honest: clear boundaries, one source of truth, failure paths and rollback. I share the decisions, code and mistakes here.

I rarely feel motivated before exercise. I start moving and let motivation catch up. Five minutes is enough to change the state. ๐Ÿƒ

@OnlineOrNot caught a 500err that my deployment checks had missed. The health endpoint was returning 200, but a real customer route was broken. I fixed the issue and added route checks to the deployment pipeline to prevent it from happening again. A healthy server doesnโ€™t necessarily mean a working product. Monitor what your users actually experience, not just whether your server is running.

Optimism isnโ€™t believing everything will work. Itโ€™s believing there is still a useful move to make, then going to find it. ๐Ÿ”‘

This is what you should do if you wish to move into AI with a better-paying tech role as a software engineer: Donโ€™t just learn AI tools. Learn how to use them to solve real problems. Build AI agents, automate business processes, document your projects and technical decisions, and show the business value of what you build. You donโ€™t need to be a software engineer to create useful AI solutions. Start with the skills you already have. Learn how AI can make them more valuable.

As modern software engineers, we need to guide LLMs in the right direction, understand what our AI agents are doing, and verify that their outputs meet our expectations. And validating their work is just as important as guiding them.
