@SussexRoyal exempts you from basic human compassion, and that everyone who enjoys a certain level of privilege actually deserves to suffer and should not express how they are feeling. Almost everyone enjoys a privilege that someone else don't, whether that's health wealth,
@SussexRoyal_ support, status or something else. We all deserve compassion no matter what our lot is in life. There's no glass ceiling for wellbeing, pain or menta health, and there shouldn't be for basic human kindness, either. You can't buy happiness from harrods Robyn Wilder

Really disappointing that the recovery in living standards that was proceeding quite well after 2012 ground to a complete halt last year. A direct result of higher inflation induced by the post referendum fall in value of the pound.
After 5 years of reasonable post-recession income growth, the latest data show median income growth stalled in 2017–18, for only the 4th time in the last 30 years.
Pascale Bourquin presents our annual #livingstandards report, funded by @jrf_uk. Read more: ifs.org.uk/publications/1419…

If you wanted to give £115 a week or £6000 a year to a group of UK people, would you choose those earning £80,000? That is what @BorisJohnson proposes. I assume his advisers have road tested it with Tory leadership selectorate of Conservative members and it is popular. But...

Really important lesson across so much of policy. Government can make more difference in the long run than many imagine; but it takes time and consistency. A continual stream of short run announcements and changes is useless at best and likely counterproductive.

It is unsustainable because revenues from council tax and business rates can't keep up with demands from social care. Local government will need new revenue streams, either from central government or new local taxes, to stay solvent.
