I'm one of this year's NYSCA/NYFA artist fellows in Digital/Electronic Arts! Really grateful for this recognition, and to be among so many amazing fellows 🥹
🎉 We're thrilled to announce the 2023 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellows & Finalists in Craft/Sculpture, Digital/Electronic Arts, Nonfiction Literature, Poetry, & Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts! 🎉

ALT Photo litho print of large eyes gazing directly ahead at the viewer. This is a horizontal piece since the eyes and eyebrows make up the piece. There are laser-cut words on the eyes and eyebrows which are Persian repeated words and the area of the cut text makes up a parallelogram and the overall color scheme is different shades of gray.

fascinating how the people who were experimenting w deep learning in 2015 have profoundly different reactions to the latest LLMs and image generators than the folks who got started a couple years ago, and again from those who got started this year.

A lot has happened in the last six years — from the first idea for the app in 2017, the first proof-of-concept in 2018 and the beta release in 2019 until today! We learned a lot about building a product from scratch and have kept polishing every piece of it.

When I get emails from @TheNewSchool's Exec. VP for Business & Operations announcing no pay or healthcare for striking adjuncts, I think about his ~$500,000 salary, while I'm fighting with @UAW7902 to get ~$7,500 to teach a class. #NewSchoolStrike

Acknowledgements: I originally collected these diagrams in 2019 as artist-in-residence at NYU, funded by a @berggruenInst ToftH fellowship and especially want to thank @ylecun and @Jake_Browning00 for their feedback and suggestions.
Since then, a number of friends have helped me get this done: Thanks to @mayameme for working with me on the first version of this project; to Mashinka Firunts Hakopian for her thoughtful editing; and for @shannonmattern for helping me navigate the publishing world 🙏
