Fatal fires rose last year and though fatalities are down from 2022, the increase in fatal fires is extremely troubling. Each death is a loved one and together we can lower fatal fires in our communities! Test smoke alarms monthly and practice a home fire escape plan. #FireSafety

Keep fire safety top of mind when heating your home this holiday season!
Leave at least one metre of distance between your heat sources (space heaters, wood stoves, and fireplaces) and flammable materials🔥

In Ontario, more than 65 per cent of injuries and deaths from CO occur in homes.
🚫Never use a stove or oven to heat your home
✅Ensure you have a working CO alarm adjacent to each sleeping area - for added protection, install one on every storey

It's #CarbonMonoxideAwarenessWeek. CO is considered the 'silent killer' as it is an invisible, tasteless, and odourless gas that can poison and kill🚫 #PickeringFire is reminding you to get all fuel-burning appliances inspected annually✅
Stay tuned for safety tips all week!

Watch what you heat!
Stay in the kitchen when cooking (especially if using oil/high temperatures). If a pot catches fire, carefully slide a tight-fitting lid over it to smother the flames and turn off the heat🍳🔥 #FireSafety #PickeringFire
