Our project, "Health, Biological Fitness and Environmental Diversity", brings together philosophy (Paul, Charles Pence and I), nutritional ecology (David), and evolutionary anthropology (Cynthia Beall) to investigate how environmental diversity shapes health & biological fitness.
If you are a philosopher of biology, you’ve probably heard that group selection and kin selection are 'formally equivalent', just two different ways of talking about the same thing.

In this newly published paper, I show that while this is indeed the case, it’s not true in the most interesting way. 'Formal equivalence' is a term that sweeps a lot under the carpet.

Our latest preprint doi.org/10.32942/X2V61T explains why fitness can be defined in so many ways, and which version(s) you should use for what. See threads in other places for explainers @geeklhem @pierrickbourrat
